Bamberg - the UNESCO Pearl of Bavaria

Everybody knows Munich. Or Nuremberg. But really, it's Bamberg, that deserves all the glory, the hidden gem of Bavaria! Bamberg is a large German city in Upper Franconia (Bavaria). It is situated on seven hills, in the valley of the Regnitz River. That is why the poetic name "Franconian Rome" was given to it. It harmoniously combines Gothic and Baroque, modernity and traditions, religious buildings, and educational institutions. There are 11 breweries in Bamberg. The oldest of them was once housed within the walls of the Church of St. Michael, whose monks invented the famous beer "Rauchbier" or "Smoked Beer" Bamberg also managed to preserve the appearance of the Middle Ages, as it miraculously survived during the Second World War. The brilliant Ernst Hoffmann and the modern children's writer Paul Maar wrote their fairy tales here. Maybe angels, who knows, protect beautiful landscapes and authentic character of Bamberg.
