The Plitvice Lakes National Park is the oldest and largest national park in Croatia, famous for its numerous turquoise-coloured lakes separated by travertine barriers that formed magnificent waterfalls.

This glorious national park, which covers almost 30, 000 hectares, is situated in the lower elevations of the Dinarides in the central part of the country. It was also granted the UNESCO heritage site status, way back in 1979.

Walking around those lakes that change their colour depending on the season, time of the day and sunshine, with the constant calming sounds of waterfalls, is a fairytale-like experience. I am a huge nature lover, but I would recommend visiting this stunning place even to those who prefer city tours.
