If you’re tired of tours full of numbers, names you can’t pronounce, and facts you forget by the next morning—this one’s for you. This walk is about stories. The kind you remember. I’ll tell you about the man who built this city—Diocletian. Not as a statue, but as a person. One of the most powerful emperors in Roman history, and one of the most complicated. You’ll hear about the people who lived inside these walls long after the empire fell—fishermen, traders, widows, workers, families. People like mine. People like yours. This isn’t a history class. It’s a walk through time with someone who lives here. No scripts. No umbrellas in the air. Just a conversation about a place I know well. It’s a slower, more personal way to learn about Split—with space for questions, stories you’ll actually remember, and honest local tips on what to see, eat, and skip while you’re here
We begin on the seafront, right beside the well-known red iron “Split” sign—a perfect spot for a quick photo. Before we set off, we’ll do what locals do: pause for a coffee. It’s not just a drink here—it’s how the day begins. From there, we enter Pazar, Split’s vibrant green market. Among seasonal produce, local voices, and daily rituals, you’ll get a first glimpse of life beyond the guidebook. Just when it starts to feel familiar, we step into the unexpected: a home over 1,700 years old. Diocletian’s Palace is more than a Roman ruin—it’s a living space. People still live, work, and walk these streets. Here, I’ll share stories that connect emperors, saints, and present-day locals. As we wander through the city’s lived-in layers, we’ll meet artisans, vendors, and residents—people who give Split its character. These moments offer honest insight into the spirit of the place. We finish where most tours never go—closer to the heart of the city, and hopefully, feeling a bit more connected to it.
