If you have already visited the old town of Split, Varoš and Marjan hill are the second best area to discover! Let’s get lost in the warren of narrow streets and discover seculded little chapels and charming courtyards. Originally home of city’s fishermen, with some of the houses dating back to the 15th century, the area mostly develped after the end of the Ottoman wars. This most authentic part of old Split offers a captivating atmosphere with many little wonders to discover. As we walk cobbled streets and twisting alleyways lined with wonderful stone houses, you will notice that streets go progressively uphill. This is because Varoš begins at the foot of Marjan Hill, beautiful green forest with stunning hermitages, chapels, breathtaking seaview and newly opened botanical garden. After visiting crowded city center of Split plunge into this Mediterranean forest bathing tour that will activate all your senses and hormones of joy!
We start from St. Francis church at Riva waterfront of Split. Here are our stops: - Šperun square and birth house of famous Croatian painter Emanuel Vidović - Varoš neighbourhood area - chapel of St. Cross from 17th century - famous mural of contemporary artist Andrea Resner - Marjan hill viewpoint - chapel of St. Nicholas from 13th century - botanical garden of Split - Telegrin peak of Marjan hill - old medieval houses on Marjan (dry wall buliding method) - breathtaking hermitrage of St. Jerome (famous wedding location) from 15th century - charming Bene beach near the ruines of St. Benedict chapel form the 11th century Upon request this tour can include swimming break & snack in the end. Return from Marjan hill back to the old town is organized by a little open train, since both Marjan forest and Varoš neighbourhood are no traffic zones of Split.
