Join me on this walking tour where we will visit Bogotá's most iconic neighborhood, La Candelaria, which has a particular emphasis on memory.

As you may know, Colombia's history has been marked by war and different conflicts, but, how did these start? When did they happen? Why are some still going on? Join me on this visit to give an answer to all those questions. As an anthropologist, I've asked myself this questions a lot, and I decided to investigate as deeply as I could to understand this issue.

Together, we'll discuss topics such as the city's conquering, and how since the very beginning there was a differentiation between indigenous communities and the conquerors. I'll also tell you about our XIX century conflicts, "La Violencia" (The Violence) in the XX century, the Cold War, drug trafficking, the XXI century conflict, and social strikes.

During the tour, you'll have the chance to hear what my research and my time as a human rights defender taught me.

Zipaquira - Salt Cathedral, an awesome architectural design!

The Salt Cathedral

We will go to the town of Zipaquira which is located more or less 1 hour drive north from Bogota (29 miles). This is considered today the first marvel of Colombia. The Salt Cathedral complex was carved 590 feet below the ground at a place which is today still active. Along the entrance tunnel the 14 stations of the cross emerge with its splendor and simplicity. After the Great Dome, the Narthex, and finally the three naves representing the cathedal. This amazing carving work into the salt rock which was designed by a Colombian architect. We can also appreciate a mirror of water which is an amazing optical illussion. The visit would take us 90 minutes walking. After we can head to the quaint town for a shor visit.
