I lived my childhood during the 80's when Medellin was under fire because of the violence caused by Pablo Escobar and the cartels and my adolescence during the 90's during the conflict held by the guerrillas and paramilitaries groups so I can give you an image about how it was living here at that time and how was the process of transformation. All this while visiting different spots like my neighborhood Comuna 13, that suffered the worst urban warfare in Colombia history and now it's the symbol of the transformation of this city, or riding the public transportation system, like the cablecars that make you feel like in an amusement park while flying over the hilly neighborhoods.

With more than 35 years of history, the Plaza Minorista is the main market where restaurants and mom-and-pop shops buy all the products they need for their businesses. According to the Alexander Von Humboldt Biological Resources Research Institute in Colombia there are at least 400 native fruits or seeds, so when you arrive at the place you will see the variety of colors and smells that make up the fruits, vegetables and herbs typical of our country.

Walking through the food market means seeing behind the scenes of each dish of Colombian gastronomy, rediscovering each ingredient and having the possibility of deciphering each flavor.

This is an inspiring story about the process lived in the neighborhoods where I grew up, in the area known as Comuna 13.
This place lived a lot of violence, in the 80's due to the gangs wars related to Pablo Escobar and the cartel and in the late 90's because of the urban warfare held by the guerrilas and paramilitaries groups. The situation was finally controled by the goverment after tough military operations between 2001 and 2002 and then an impresive transformation process started.
Nowadays Comuna 13 is a place full of happiness that is visited by people from all over the world.
