This is a must do while in Medellin. Guatape gathers dofferent features that make this trip unique and unforgettable. The first thing is the colorful look of the town with its architecture full of decorations on the front walls of the houses. Secondly the reservoir located next to the town that makes the landscape really pretty and that offers the chance to sail seeing amazing nature and impressive country side houses. And the third thing but not less important, the 720ft (220m) high rock that can be climbed through a 708 steps stair and offers the most incredible view. This place also shows the transformation of Colombia as this used to be guerrilla territory and despite its tough past, it's nowadays a peaceful place visited by people from all over the world. I have visited Guatape my entire life and it would be a big pleasure showing you around!
The tour starts and ends at your hotel or the adress you prefer. Recommended start time: 8am or earlier. I'll drive you for 1, 5 hours to the countryside, passing by towns and vegetables plantations untill we get the area of the reservoir. Once there we'll stop at: *REPLICA OF THE OLD PEÑOL: Replica of the main square of a town that had to be moved due to the construction of a dam and the flooding of the area. It's a handcraft market and from there we'll take a boat trip by the reservoir. *THE ROCK: A natural wonder 720ft/220m high that can be climbed through 708 steps. If you climb you'll be rewarded with an incredible view, if you don't, you'll still enjoy of a good view from the base and local drinks and snacks. To climb the admission fee is COP25. 000 per person (US6, 50), not included on the tour. *GUATAPE: One of the most beautiful towns in Colombia, with colorful architecture, particular designs on the front walls of the houses and nice local restaurants and coffee shops. Drive back to Medellin.
