Lama Temple, also called Yonghe Palace, is the largest and best preserved lamasery in Beijing. It once was the residence of Emperor Yongzheng , Lama Temple is comprised of pailou, Grand Hall, Yongyou Hall, Falun Hall and Hall of Boundless Happiness. There are three wonders inside. One, Red sandalwood 500 Arhats carving . Two, 26 meters high white sandalwood Maitreya Buddha. Three, Nan mu wood carving with 99 dragons around . It was the place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties would worship the god of heaven and pray for good harvest. Covering an area of 273 hectares, it is the largest architectural complex in the world for rituals to pay homage to heaven.
