The Unknown Sites

We would start at Vaitea, where we will learn about the history of the XX century when the island was used as a sheep farm. We will then visit Ovahe, the less known beach of the island. Along the north coast we will also stop at Hanga Ho’onu. After we will move to Papa Vaka, a unique site of the island to learn about the importance of the petroglyph in the ancient rapa nui art expressions. Not far from there we will find along the road a little rock called Pu o Hiro, an ancient rock used to generate a big sound like a trumpet. We will then stop nearby the Moai quarry to visit the ancient road of transportation of the statues, Ara o te Moai, here you will be able to walk among the giants statues that are fallen. We will then continue to Hanga Poukura, where the Moai have been not only toppled but also abandoned in a very particular order. Our last stop will be at Huri a Urenga, a restored platform with an astronomical orientation and with a very special Moai with four hands.
