It takes only 15 minutes by ferry to reach the calm serenity of Toronto Islands. When we step off the boat, you won't believe you're still in Toronto! This leisurely bike adventure is the best way to see the Toronto islands. On the way you'll learn about the island's fascinating indigenous ancestry, the island history and the geological formation of the islands and you will hear stories about mysterious legends, the haunted lighthouse and the Islander's triumphant battles with the city to keep their eclectic homes from destruction. We'll be cycling through the largest urban car-free community in North America and breathe in the air along the 5km trail passing pristine beaches, sand dunes, lagoons, woodlands and meadows. Find your way through the William Meany maze, check out the haunted Island lighthouse. and cycle to Algonquin Island, home to over 800 island residents. The Islands offer one of the most spectacular views on Toronto's skyline.
We'll meet at the Jack Layton ferry terminal at the south west corner of Bay St. and Queens Quay to catch the ferry to the Islands. After docking, we'll walk through the beautiful parkland and pick up our bikes then ride the paved 3 mile trail to the beaches of Hanlan's Point, then along the boardwalk to Wards Island. We'll bike to the community homes and ride past the gothic-revival cottages and gorgeous gardens of the Island residences. We'll stop for a photo opportunity to shoot a spectacular view of Toronto from the islands. We'll cycle to marinas and walk over bridges to some of the other islands and visit the place where the Islanders confronted the city sheriff from serving the eviction papers 30 years ago. From there, we return the bikes and head back to the city to end the tour. This tour can be fully customized to meet your time schedule and alternate requests.
