I will take you to visit both inside and outside the fortification walls that surround Old Quebec. It will be a walk towards the knowledge of the role that Quebec has played during more than 400 years of history, as much during the 154 years of the French Regime, as the 107 years of the British Regime and as of the 157 years that Quebec has been part of Canada. After the historic aspect, let me tell you about the current Québec, its economy, its sociology, its people and its place in Canada. Mainly, the goal of this tour is to visit the sites so you learn why Québec became the city that it is today, a unique city in North America.
First, on the outside part of the fortification walls, the Plains of Abraham, from where we will be heading for the Armory Hall and, finally, around the Parliament of Quebec, including the Tourny fountain. Then, passing by the St. Louis Gate, we will be heading for the center of Old Quebec. But, on our way, we will make a few stops: the Ursulines Convent and Le Cavalier du Moulin Park. There are many things to say and to look at on Place d'Armes: the worldknown hotel Le Château Frontenac next to the Dufferin terrace, the narrow Du Trésor street, where you could find a nice painting as a souvenir, and the Holy Trinity Cathedral. The first parish founded in Canada is called Notre-Dame de Québec: its church is both a cathedral (home of the archdiocese) and a basilica (church endowed by the Pope with special dignity). Facing it, the City Hall of Québec. All of these attractions are on the upper city. The lower city is where the first French settlers established: Place Royale where was born Québec in 1608.
