Come to the colonial town of Ouro Preto and visit the local gold mines, Baroque churches, and historical museums. A look into an original gold mine will take the visitor to Brazil of the 18th century. On the weekends we offer an optional tour in an original steam train. History: The historical city Ouro Preto is UNESCO world heritage. The town is a masterpiece of Brazilian colonial architecture. The town is also famous for its university tradition and its carnival culture. I love the carnival in Ouro Preto because it is old fashioned and perfect for families. At the end of the 17th century the prospectors came to the region from São Paulo, Portugal and the northeast of Brazil, searching for gold.
