El Alto is a city and municipality of Bolivia located in the Murillo Province of the department of La Paz, west of the country on the plateau. In terms of population, El Alto is the most populous city in the department and the second largest city in Bolivia. Also called, the Aymara capital, because it is inhabited basically by Aymara people. El Alto was created as an independent municipal entity with the rank of city on March 6, 1985, which is why it is considered one of the youngest cities in Bolivia. Due to its close proximity to the city of La Paz, the city of El Alto is part of the Metropolitan Area of La Paz. Both cities form the largest metropolitan city in Bolivia. In the city of El Alto is located the International Airport, one of the main Airports of Bolivia. Regarding the economic aspect, El Alto has been characterized by having a great and intense commercial activity. In the city there are about 5600 small and medium-sized companies.
We pick you up from your hotel and take the cable cars (according to the location of your hotel) to go to the city of El Alto, where will visit a viewpoint, from where we will admire the topography of the city of La Paz and its constructions. Then we will take a tour to observe some constructions of the so-called Andean architecture, developed by the Aymara architect and engineer - Freddy Mamani, with the option of visiting the interior of one of them. Later on, we will go to the Wiphala condominium, where there are murals of the renowned Bolivian painter Mamani Mamani; then we will take the blue line of the cable car, from where we will have a panoramic view of El Alto City, also the snow caped mountains of the Royal Range, as well as more buildings with Andean architecture. Then we visit the Aymara priests who still practice the Andean rituals, ceremonies and we will share their cosmovision. Finally, We will take the cable car to return to La Paz and drop you off at your hotel.
