If you are a medieval buff or simply someone who enjoys a beautiful piece of architecture, Bruges is the place to visit. Most of its streets, alleys and canals still coincide exactly with those of the medieval city. With anecdotes, pictures and the fantastic buildings of Bruges we will almost feel how life must have been like in the Middle Ages. We will walk through the Béguinage, a community of pious women founded around 1244. We will visit a "godhuis", the charitable houses opened by rich people since the 14th century. And in Saint John's Hospital we will know about the medieval medicine and its strange remedies. We will walk along the beautiful canals of Bruges, stopping in the most picturesque places, and we will cross two impressive public squares: the Burg, base of operations of the Count of Flanders since the 9th century, and the Markt, the heart of the medieval trading. Although chocolate was not present in the medieval Bruges, we will taste the Belgian chocolate and we will know why it is so famous.
The tour can start in your hotel, in the train station or in the most convenient place in the city centre. We will visit: *"de Markt" (Market Square), *the Belfry tower, *Burg Square, *The Chapel of the Holy Blood, *Huidenvettersplein (Tanners Square), *the beautiful Rozenhoedkaai and *the medieval canals, *Gruuthuse, *Church Of Our Lady, *the brewery "Halve Maan", *the Beguinage, *Minnewater (lake of love)… Entrance fees not included. As I am a certified guide of Bruges, I can adapt the tour to your convenience. Let me know what are your interests and wills. During the tour we can visit: *The Church of Our Lady and its sumptuous interior including the Michelangelo's Madonna (€ 6, 00 per person, closed on Sunday morning) and/or *The Basilica of the Holy Blood, a Neogothic temple that preserves a relic, said to contain some of the blood of Jesus Christ (free entrance, but closed between 12:15 and 14:00).
