Vienna has more to offer than a glorious past, it is also a very romantic city. In some hidden corners we still may find old gas lanterns, dreamy backyards and inner courts. I will invite you to stay and imagine past times. Also houses and shop fassades can tell their own story which goes far beyond the imperial history that you will hear so often. How did that humane "falling in love" story work out 300 years ago? What was possible, where were the no gos? This tour will show you some of the most romantic places in downtown Vienna. It is packed with many interesting stories of bourgeois life in earlier times as well as the lower class people's permanent struggle far away from that romanticism. I will start with you from some of the oldest quarters in Vienna, stroll through the narrow roads behind the cathedral and finish at the Ringstreet. At the end of this tour, I hope you will be as much in love with Vienna as am I.
From Schwedenplatz at the banks of the Danube Canal we head on to one of the oldest quarters in downtown Vienna, the Greek town (a visit of the Greek orthodox church is not always possible), then the old university, some famous big courts. These old lanes are very romantic and I will have stories of all kinds. . . . Join me further to the area behind our cathedral that host many hidden secrets and lovely backyards. I will show you the freemasons loge, the house where Mozart composed his famous opera "Figaros Wedding" or old Biedermeier houses that witnessed very tragic love stories. Another kind of romanticism is the posh cat cafe. at the end of this tour I will also show you parts of the old city walls. . . . There are few places in Vienna where you find bits and pieces of it, I have them for you! The tour finally ends at the ring street within easy reach of the subway (U3)
