Launceston to Hobart Tour through the Historic Midlands

Hobart is Australia's second oldest city. Launceston is Australia's third oldest city. And the highway between the two are littered with Historic townships. Heading out of Launceston we travel south on the Heritage Highway, passing through Perth, and Campbell Town until we reach beautiful Ross. Sandstone buildings stand majestic along the leafy tree lined streets, we stop here for free time to walk around, visiting antique shops, bakeries, the Tasmanian Wool Centre, Historic churches. Highlight is the Ross Bridge, Australia's third oldest bridge. The intricate stone carvings inlaid into the bridge's archways earned the convict stonemasons an early pardon. Then continue south through Oatlands, full of sandstone buildings, and onto Richmond - location of Australia's oldest bridge, oldest Catholic Church, a convict Gaol. Then into Hobart and Salamanca Place, stopping at Rosny Hill for views across the Derwent River. The the highlight is driving up Mt Wellington for magnificent views over south east Tasmania.
