The Tsitsernakaberd memorial complex was built in 1967 in memory of the victims of the first genocide in the modern history of mankind, arranged by the Turks in 1915.

Khor Virap Monastery is located in the Ararat region and is the birthplace of Christianity in Armenia. In ancient centuries, this was a prison where St. Gregory the Illuminator, the founder of Christianity in Armenia, was imprisoned for 13 years. Khor Virap is also the closest point to the legendary Mount Ararat, from where opens a fabulous view of the Biblical Mountain.

The village of Areni (in last Arpa) since ancient times has been considered as winemaking center of Armenia. Located in the Vayots Dzor region, in the valley of the Arpa River. Being a local, I am fortunate to live in city center. This enables me to access both the center of Yerevan for my walking tours and it is possible to drive to countryside by car which is also full of hidden gems and incredible history. (I have lived in various parts of Armenia for more then 10 years).

An hour's drive brings us to Khor Virap Monastery. Located in the Ararat plain situated about 100 meters away from the closed Turkish-Armenian border (sealed by barbed wire fencing) and defended by Russian military establishments.

Heading to south east of Armenia and our 2nd stop is the legendary Monastery of the Spear at Geghard. This UNESCO World Heritage site was carved into the rock to house one of the most cherished relics of Christianity.

We continue our drive to Garni Temple, a first century A. D. Graeco-Roman pagan temple probably devoted to Mithra. We may hear Armenian visitors give an impromptu choral concert.
