Train and walking in the old city

Once upon a time, Yangon was the capital city of Mon dynasty. In that time, the city was called Dagon. But, when King Alaungphaya captured Dagon in 1755, he changed the name of the city to Yangon in commemoration of the end of the strife. And, when the British force came to Yangon in 1852, they changed the name of the city to Rangoon again. Since then, Yangon became the capital of Myanmar until the government relocated the capital to Naypyidaw in 2004. Now, Yangon is only the commercial city with over 7 million population.
When the British force came to Yangon in 1852, it was just a small village. And then, the British army engineer Lieutenant Fraser designed Yangon city in the delta land. Yangon is not too far from the sea. It is 32 km far from the sea. You can see beautiful colonial buildings in the downtown areas of Yangon. Actually, Yangon was a green city with many big trees.

A Recent Review of this tour

Htay is an exceptional guide with a vast knowledge of Yangon; tremendous English language skills; and a warm, pleasant personality that are perfect for a guide. He is accommodating, but will make recommendations without hesitation; he is flexible, but will stick to an agreed upon schedule, and he is a great listener as well as a fountain of knowledge. Our 1 1/2 day tour could not have been better. And the credit goes entirely to Htay, the driver (the outstanding vehicle, also). THANK YOU Htay!
