Verona off the beaten track

Are you one those that prefer to stay away from the stream of tourists? Have you already been to Verona and now want to see something new where few tourist ever go? Or are you simply one of those that want to dicover the hidden jewels that Verona can offer, and not the usual common touristic places where everybody goes? Well, this is the tour for you. Verona is crossed by a river, a river that cuts the town into two parts. The one on the right side is where all people go, the left river bank is where only some people go, because they know it better. Rare Italian art objects are secretly preserved in churches and museums and they only wait to be unveiled by your wide-open eyes.

Itinerary

This tour can be combined with the ones I already offer here, either the essential sightseeings or the art and food tour. But in this part of the day I will bring you on the other side of the river Adige that crosses the city. We have many possibilieties over there. We can for example visit the Roman theater, which is one of the best preserved in Italy and where a beautiful archeological museum has just been reopened to the public with mosaic floors, statues and objects dating back to the Roman time. Near here there are some churches that will involve you in a breathtaking atmophere: Saint George's church, for example, was defined by Goethe in his "Travels in Italy" as "a gallery full of paintings", the most famous is the "Martyrdom of Saint George", a splendid masterpiece by Paolo Veronese. Whereas, inside the church of Santa Maria in Organo we will admire the superb wooden inlays in the Choir and Sacristy. Illusionist objects or urban scenes were generated by the skill of the olivetano friar Fra' Giovanni.
