I love the island of Oahu for all the outdoor activities she offers: hiking, swimming, canoe paddling, etc.

But there's more to like about the Hawaiian Islands than natural beauty. The history and mythology of the Hawaiian people captivate locals and visitors alike. I enjoy learning about them and sharing my knowledge.

When family or friends visit, I take them around to the places I enjoy (sightseeing, restaurants, activities) or, if time does not permit, I draw up itineraries for them to explore on their own. From President Obama's favorite shave ice stand to hidden waterfalls and spectacular vistas, I will help you discover way more of the island than you could driving a rental car with your nose stuck in a map.

Experience the North Shore's famous surf beaches and scenic beauty. Explore Haleiwa Town and stop for lunch at one of the many food trucks. Round out the day with a visit to Dole Plantation, where you can purchase their famous Dole Whip and sample fresh pineapple.

Half-Day North Shore Tour

Whether you're a WWII history buff or aren't familiar with Pearl Harbor's significance, several movies about the Japanese Imperial Navy's attack there are worth watching or re-watching. Try "Pearl Harbor, " "Midway, " and "Tora!Tora!Tora!"

Your guide will meet you near the Pearl Harbor Visitors Center to transport you to the entrance,
provide a brief introduction and distribute tickets to the USS Arizona Memorial. You'll learn about the attack on December 7, 1941 through a documentary film and several exhibits. Take a shuttle boat to the USS Arizona Memorial and board a WWII era submarine, the USS Bowfin.

Pearl Harbor Visitors Center Half-Day Tour

Meet your guide near Pearl Harbor Visitors Center for transport to the entrance. Your guide will accompany you on the shuttle bus across the Admiral Clarey Bridge to historic Ford Island. You will board the USS Missouri, site of Japan's surrender, and take an optional 30 minute, docent-led tour. Your guide will escort you up to the bridge and below deck to the sleeping quarters, mess halls and other areas.

Next visit the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, with a refurbished Japanese "Zero" fighter plane, several WWII aircraft, including Pres. George H. W. Bush's trainer, and planes and helicopters from more recent eras. See the bullet holes in the hangar windows from both Japanese strafing and friendly fire. Take in the view of the harbor from atop Ford Island Control Tower. The brave and not easily nauseous may want to experience flying a fighter plan in the museum's flight simulator (extra charge).
