Welcome to London!

An exciting modern city filled with fascinating history. There is no "old quarter" here. London is a wonderful mixture of old and new, where you can see a picturesque ancient church right next to an ultra-modern steel and glass tower block. I'm here to help you find both of these things and lots more, and explain the stories behind them.

Being a London tour guide is the best job in the world. My name is Mike, and as a walking tour guide I am constantly amazed by how much there is to learn about the City of London. Our modern City sits on 2, 000 years of history. Romans, Vikings and Normans have trodden these streets. Henry VIII, Dick Whittington and William Shakespeare were all here, among countless others. London has been a city of trade, immigration, culture, wealth, royalty and politics for centuries. There are medieval livery halls, execution sites, statues, monuments, and Wren churches. If you know where to look they can still be found amidst the dynamic modern skyscrapers.

Are you here to see where your ancestors lived, or where your industry began? I have some special tours listed here, and I'm happy to customise them if there's something you really want to see.

I spend lots of time researching the stories and secrets of the Londoners who were here before us, so I can share them with you, my tour guests. The great thing about private tours and small groups is that it's just like going for a walk with some friends and chatting about all the interesting stuff we see.

There are a few attractions within the City that have their own internal tour guides. I can take you to these places and the tour inside will be done by the guides that work there. Examples of this are the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey and St Paul's Cathedral.

This first half of the tour is above ground and includes must-see spots such as Downing Street, Parliament, Horse Guards Parade as well as photogenic streets of 300 year old housing that survived the bombs.

The second half of the tour goes underground as we explore the original rooms where Winston Churchill and his war cabinet conducted much of the Second World War. This is even includes the bed where Winston Churchill slept (spoiler alert: it was a small single bed!).
