Guide #39527
Goeie dag mense! By this short introduction as your future guide, I wants to share a bit of myself with you, my future fellow traveler. Born as a 4th generation South African to an Afrikaner family, I was just in time for when the Americans put the first man on the moon, grew up in the dying years of Apartheid, witnessed the transition in our society when Mandela was released from jail and survived the Y2K bug and subsequent info tech revolution (so far!). I was walking like an Egyptian to the beat of the Bangles as a teeny bopper but still consider the music of the sixties and seventies far superior. Adventure runs in my veins and my boots have seen the Himalayas, the Hindu Kush, the Drakensberg and others. I shared a thermal with vultures in my para-glider on occasions and got chewed up and spat out by riding white waters in my kayak. But my real passion has always been the Great Outdoors. For the past 30 years I have worked as a ranger first and later as an environmental consultant in different Parks across South Africa and in Afghanistan. Qualified with a masters degree in environmental management and as a certified guide, nothing gives me more pleasure than to share our rich diversity of fauna , flora and history with other people to promote awareness towards our natural environment and our unique social fabric. Let me make your journey to this beautiful country as interactive and as comfortable as possible. Custom made to your needs. I live and love the story of my country here in the foothills of the Waterberg, Limpopo province. A fair share of our history is seeped in blood. It is a story of oppression and survival, of domination and revolution between the many ethnic groups and different cultures but the most beautiful story is of ordinary people who have reached across the divide to take hands. These stories tend to get lost and obscured by the main narrative of racial conflict and strive. Almost like alluvial diamonds in the Kalahari sands! Join me to discover the vastness of the bushveld by forgotten trails away from the maddening crowds. Where the skyline is broken by trees and ancient mountains only, where the Milky Way meanders through an ink-black canvas of the Universe and where the smell of our campfire mingles with the other fragrances of the bush. Was it not Hemmingway who once wrote: "All I wanted to do was get back to Africa. We had not left it, yet, but when I would wake in the night I would lie, listening, homesick for it already. " See you soon! National Diploma in Nature conservation (Technicon Pretoria), Masters degree in Environmental Management (University of the Free State) , National Certificate: Tourism: Guiding (613/C/009940) none
