Guide #50276
I was born and raised in Matsue, the capital of Shimane Prefecture and a castle town with a history of about 400 years. I went to a college in Tokyo and majored in English literature. After graduating, I worked as an English teacher at a public senior high school. I have qualifications as an associate professor of the Urasenke school of tea ceremony and as a kimono dresser, and I hold tea ceremony classes at my place in Matsue city. Since 2016, I have been a member of the Shimane Interpreters Guide Association (SIGA), and I am active as a tour guide with a national license for English speakers from overseas. I mainly offer tours of Shimane Prefecture and western Tottori Prefecture. Although it is not as bustling as Tokyo, Kyoto, and other metropolitan area, our local area used to be the political and cultural center in ancient times, and it is blessed with a long history of mythology and culture, as well as beautiful scenery, and there are many hidden gems worth visiting. Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904), a writer of Greek-Irish descent, was assigned to Matsue as an English teacher, married the daughter of a local samurai, and became a naturalized Japanese citizen. He introduced the city of Matsue to the world in his book "The Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan". His residence is still preserved and open to the public. I hope that people from all over the world will visit this beautiful water town. I can pick you up at Matsue Station, Izumo Station, Yonago Station, or hotels near the stations, Izumo Airport, or Yonago Airport. I can also accompany you on tours that include an overnight stay if you wish, as well as day trips. In case you would like to be picked up at the cruise ship port of call in Sakaiminato, there is no public transport, so I need to charter a taxi. As a reference, it takes about an hour by taxi from the port of call to Matsue Castle or Adachi Museum of Art. The following are the general charter fees as of Feb. 2025. Regular taxi (up to 2-3 people) 3,950 yen / 30 minutes Jumbo taxi (up to 4-5 people) 5,500 yen / 30 minutes If you are more up to 9 people, please contact me.
