Welcome to ToursByLocals of Amakusa. My name is Yuko. I have lived in a small island town called Amakusa for over 30 years. I have worked as a tour guide for 9 years. I love my job. As a professional certified tour guide and a tourist who widely travelled within and beyond Japan, it will be my pleasure to show you around Amakusa. Amakusa is located in a southern part of Japan. Some people say it is one of the most backward regions in Japan. That is absolutely true! But it has something so called modern societies have lost. That is the beauty of this rural area. You will soon find out upon visiting our little paradise. In the Amakusa Sea lives around 200 dolphins. Our local fishermen can take you to their habitat on a 20 minute-boat ride. Pending harsh weather conditions, there is a 98% chance that you'll encounter them! Here you can also enjoy traditional Japanese dishes made with fresh ingredients from the sea and mountains. Before the meal, an open-air (or indoor) bath will await you. If you are interested in the history of "Hidden Christians", Sakitsu Church is a must-visit place in Japan. Sakitsu Village was a candidate for an UNESCO World Cultural Heritage listing in 2016. I am eager to share wonderful experiences with you here in Amakusa.
