Guide #71497

I first arrived in Japan in 2011, at the age of 18, with a map, a small dictionary, and a strong desire to fulfill a lifelong dream: living in Japan. In 2015, I graduated from the University of Venice with a degree in Japanese Language and Culture after spending a year on a scholarship at Utsunomiya University in Tochigi Prefecture. I developed a deep love for the classical Heian period, especially the literature of the time, such as The Tale of Genji, e-maki scrolls, calligraphy, and the lives and hopes of court ladies who poured all their dreams into writing. I initially worked as an English-Japanese translator and interpreter, but my passion for Japanese culture remained a guiding force. In 2020, I published my first guidebook, “Okinawa: The Complete Guide”, covering this beautiful tropical island in the south of Japan. I traveled across Okinawa’s main island to capture the highlights of each city: Sefa Utaki in Itoman, Shuri Castle in Naha, the various gusuku (Okinawan castles) around Urasoe, Yomitan, and Nago, as well as shrines central to Ryukyu religion. The guide also includes traditional Okinawan cuisine, literature, and my personal top ten list of the best beaches. In 2022, I published “A Journey Within the Journey”, a guide to alternative itineraries across Japan, featuring places like the various Chinatowns, a Taiwanese temple in Saitama, the Confucian temple in Kyushu, the only Tibetan temple in Nagoya, the mosque in Shibuya, and many other intriguing sites for those who want to explore beyond the typical tourist paths. Afterward, I transitioned to a new role, joining one of Japan's most reputable share-house companies, well-known among foreigners for its excellent English support. Through this experience, I learned how to assist newcomers with common challenges, from buying a SIM card and prioritizing time in Tokyo to recovering lost luggage. Since 2019, I have also been guiding small groups and couples around Tokyo, Yokohama, and Kamakura. My areas of expertise include Art, History, and Philosophy. Together, we can uncover the hidden treasures of Zojo-ji Temple, view the 500 portraits of the arhats, and explore how the artist Kazunobu influenced contemporary artists like Murakami. In Kamakura, the city named after the Kamakura period, I will introduce you to key historical figures who shaped Japan's history, like Minamoto no Yoritomo and his clan. Kamakura, the ancient capital of the Bakufu (tent government), is rich in shrines and temples, and AI will explain the distinctions between Zen, Pure Land Buddhism, and other facets of Japanese spirituality. Upon request, I can also arrange a meditation session in one of the city's temples. As a food enthusiast, I am also eager to introduce you to Japanese cuisine. We can arrange an okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake with customizable ingredients) cooking experience, visit the new fish market for some of the best sushi, or explore the historic Tsukiji Fish Market. In serene temples like Ajisai-dera in Kamakura, we can enjoy matcha (Japanese green tea) and wagashi (Japanese sweets), surrounded by a tranquil forest and the soothing sound of a nearby river. During my tours, I also offer insights into Japanese society, sharing its unique customs, the pros and cons of life in Japan, amusing everyday anecdotes, and my own personal stories.
