Namaste. Welcome to India, Welcome to Nainital. I am Sunil, Your local host & dost (friend) in the "Lake district of India". I am a local living in this region from last 40 years and am also an Adventure travel professional.

My love for travel & adventure took me to the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management, Gwalior, an one of the premier tourism institutes in the country.

I completed my travel and tourism management course from here in 2003. In my last 17 years of career, I have worked in various capacities like Tour executive cum guide, Sr. Tour Executive cum guide, Supervisor and in Manager capacities in various well known Indian Inbound travel companies as well as travel technology MNC's.

This exposure helped me to understand better, the needs and requirements of International travelers.
Besides a travel professional, I am also a certified mountaineer and an endurance sports lover, who regularly participates in marathons, triathlons and Ultra triathlons .

Nainital also spelled as Naini Tal, is a popular hill station in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Nainital is located in the Kumaon foothills of the outer Himalayas at a distance of 310 km (193 mi) from New Delhi, the capital of India. It is situated at an altitude of 2, 084 metres (6, 837 ft) above sea level and have average minimum and maxmimum temperature of 3 to 25 degree celsius (i. e 37. 4 to 77 degree fahrenheit) throughout the year.

Dotted with lakes , Nainital has earned the epithet of ' Lake District ' of India . The most prominent of the lakes is Naini lake ringed by hills . Nainital has a varied topography . Some of the important places in the district are Nainital , Bhimtal , Sattal, Naukuchiatal, Haldwani , Kaladhungi , Ramnagar , Bhowali , Ramgarh and Mukteshwar. Nainital's unending expense of scenic beauty is nothing short of a romance with awe-inspiring and pristine Mother nature.

Here you can indulge yourself in various activities like Boating, Trekking, Birding, Cave Exploration, Rock climbing, Paragliding, Camping, Ropeway Ride, City Walk and Shopping too.

Divisions of Kumaon Kumaon or Kumaun is one of the two regions and administrative divisions of Kumaon, a mountainous state of northern India, the other being Garhwal. 
It includes the districts of Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital, Pithoragarh, and Udham Singh Nagar. It is bounded on the north by Tibet, on the east by Nepal, on the south by the state of Uttar Pradesh, and on the west by the Garhwal region. The people of Kumaon are known as Kumaonis and speak the Kumaoni language.

Historically ruled by the kings of Katyuri and Chand Dynasties, the Kumaon division was formed in 1816, when the British reclaimed this region from the Gorkhas, who had annexed the erstwhile Kingdom of Kumaon in 1790. 

It is home to a famous Indian Army regiment, the Kumaon Regiment. Important towns of Kumaon are Haldwani, Nainital, Almora, Pithoragarh, Rudrapur, Kichha, Kashipur, Pantnagar, Mukteshwar and Ranikhet. Nainital is the administrative centre of Kumaon Division and this is where the Kumaon high court is located.

Climbing approx. 36 km with 1600 Mt of continuous elevation to heavenly "Nainital" from "Kathgodam" (last railway station of Kumaon region of Uttarakhand) is both gruelling and fulfilling. Nainital, the charming Himalayan lake town, is a picture-postcard perfect hill-station and one of the most popular in Northern India.
Commonly known as the 'Lake District', Nainital is nestled high up in the Kumaon Himalayas at an altitude of around
 2000mt above sea level. The town is centred around the emerald mountain lake Naini, which on most days is dotted with colourful sailboats. According to mythology, the lake is believed to have been formed when the eyes of goddess "Sati" fell at this spot.
