Guide #3950
My name is Anne. I am from Germany, but after having lived and worked in Hong Kong since 2005, I am happy to call this fascinating place my second home. Despite arriving on a day with a typhoon, it was kind of "love at first sight". My original plan was to stay for a 6 months' project. But it happened that I was here at the right time at the right place and got an offer to stay which I couldn't reject - so here I am. In my first job - beside many other tasks - I was handling official delegations (politicians, journalists, entrepreneurs, trade fair exhibitors) and planning and organizing their program, sometimes over several days. But over the years also many friends and family members came to HKG and I love to show them "my Hong Kong" apart from the normal tourist paths. In 2008, I set up my own company. We are supporting mostly European companies to set up their business in Hong Kong and China and representing some of them. Being a western expatriate in Hong Kong, I experienced myself all the cultural differences which you might not be aware of when you only live in your country. These are not the obvious differences like eating with chopsticks or handing a name card with both hands. It is on a deeper layer, the little things and behaviors that in the end make a big difference. I love to connect with people from all walks of life and all parts of the world. This is the magic of Hong Kong…just a normal dinner with friends tends to be more like a gathering of the "United nations". Further on, I am a passionate photographer - just an amateur - but I never leave the house without my camera because you never know what motives you encounter during a day…there is always something to take a picture of. Being a member of the Hong Kong Photography Club I joined a lot of outings sometimes with professional photographers visiting the city. I am passionate about Hong Kong and the positive spirit of the city and love to share this with other people. A gateway in both directions: to China for the western and vice versa. With 7, 3 Million inhabitants, Hong Kong is big - but due to the limited space and the very efficient and easy to access public transport you can get to know the highlights of the city in a short time. Traveling is very individual - everybody has own expectations and interests - and normally a limited time to make most out of your stay. Whether you arrive on a cruise vessel or as a business traveler, a single guest, a couple or a small group: I am happy to customize your program. Maybe you have only a few hours for a shore visit or a stopover at the airport? Or you are here for business and after a long day of meetings you would like to use a few hours left in the evening for a bit of sightseeing. Perhaps you have been here several times and would like to know more about the city, like good restaurants, architecture, art & galleries - or a hike in one of the magnificent Country Parks…. or just for shopping. There are endless opportunities in this city and I am happy to show you the hidden beauty behind the breathtaking views and attractions. My tour suggestions should give you an idea about the possible itinerary and places to visit. I always adapt it them, depending where you stay, which time of the day you start your tour and on the weather conditions. For example: on a day with heavy rain or fog, it makes no sense to go up to the peak as you can see nothing. We always can make spontaneous changes to the agenda. If you are here over a weekend, you should allow more time for the most famous spots like Victoria Peak or the Buddha. Or go there very early. Let me introduce and invite you to the "Fragrant Harbour" - which is the meaning of the Cantonese word for Hong Kong . I have no private car in Hong Kong, but I can arrange for a limousine or mini van and a local driver.
