Guide #66781
I'm a German-American from Maine, who arrived in Heidelberg in the late 1970s with the sole purpose of studying geology. After earning my master's degree and later a PhD, I often contemplated leaving the city, but its charm kept me rooted. Nearly 50 years on, Heidelberg continues to surprise me with new discoveries daily, its rich history adding depth to its allure. I consider myself fortunate to have explored some of the world's most magnificent destinations in the early '70s, before the surge of mass tourism: from South America and Southeast Asia to Europe and the USA, each place left a lasting impression on me. Nowadays, instead of extensive globetrotting, I have the pleasure of encountering hundreds of fascinating individuals each week right at my doorstep. Living beneath the iconic castle ruins of Heidelberg, I serve as a tour guide, sharing tales of bygone glory alongside the vibrancy of modern city life. As for hobbies, when I'm not in town or visiting loved ones, you'll likely find me on the golf course. Despite my dedication, I remain humbled by the sport, constantly striving to refine my game. Additionally, I have a passion for baking artisanal breads—check out some of my creations!
