My name is Vahio, I'm a nature lover, passionate about Polynesian culture and traditions. Through my work as a professional hiking guide in Tahiti, I'll be happy to share with you my knowledge of the fauna, flora, stories and legends of the valleys where we'll be on our next outing. I'm currently juggling working as a hiking guide and designing and creating permaculture vegetable gardens in Tahiti.

I know that French Polynesia is famous for its white sandy beaches, and this is what most people come to Tahiti to see but just come and stay in Papeete, 5 minutes from downtown, and you'll be able to see with your own eyes what you're missing: the beautiful valleys of Tahiti: the true beauty of Tahiti and the heart of our island.

Papeete, capital of the French overseas country of French Polynesia in the South Pacific Ocean is a gracious tropical city with tall palms, and abundant tropical flowers and fruits. Papeete lies on the northwest coast of Tahiti and is one of the largest urban centres in the South Pacific. Papeete harbor is a place of trade and a favorite port of call for whalers.

If you're in Tahiti, and more specifically in Papeete, and you're looking for an exciting adventure to experience, consider visiting one of the city's most incredible waterfalls, at just 5 min from the center of Papeete and this is "The Fautau'a valley". This hike will take you through Tahiti's flourishing and verdant interior and is one of my top recommended excursions hike in town.

Its splendid valley, home to one of the country's most beautiful waterfalls, inspired French writer and poet Pierre Loti in the 1870s. That's why this valley is also know as the "LOTI valley".

Fautau'a: The most popular valley of Papeete - Private tour

The Fara'ura Valley is located at PK 37. 5 in the commune of Hīti'a'a Ō Te Rā and about 45 minutes from Papeete, along the east coast.

The Fara'ura Valley is a hidden playground for nature lovers and is considered one of Tahiti's most beautiful hiking trails. The trail begins at the estuary of the Mahateaho River, which flows down the valley.

Throughout the day, we'll have the pleasure of admiring the valley's magnificent landscapes and breathtaking views. Then, almost at the end of the hike, we'll reach the panoramic viewpoint: a spectacular view of two 60-metre-high "twin" waterfalls, with another 180-metre waterfall just behind them.

Fara'ura: The most popular valley of Hītia'a Ō Te Rā - Private tour from Papeete

The Papenoo valley is less than 30 minutes from Papeete and was formed by the collapse of the Tahiti Nui volcano crater.

There are many archaeological sites to discover, including ancient dwellings, basalt mines and agricultural terraces.

The Papenoo valley was once called Ha'apai'ano'o (the gathering of all waters) because of the river, which is the product of 35 tributaries over a length of 15 km. It was once called Te Mano Rahi (10, 000 warriors) because for many centuries it was the residence of important Tahitian chiefs.

And on our journey through the Papeno'o valley, we'll rediscover one of the most beautiful and forgotten valleys: Vaiputoà, the jewel of the Papeno'o valley.
