Hello, I'm Florin and I have been living in Normandy for sixteen years now, a region that still does not cease to amaze me with its natural beauty as well as its remarkable historical and cultural heritage. To an historian like myself, it would have been hard to find a more fascinating place to live in. From the Viking incursions, over eleven centuries ago — when Normandy as a distinct entity did not even exist! — to D-Day and the Normandy campaign, there is so much to discover, study or simply contemplate in this unique part of France! In what concerns the tours, athough I still think that profession is not the best term to describe what I am doing — it is probably a calling more than anything else — I started working for a local tour provider in 2011. I was naturally communicative and thus took great pleasure in the interactional side of these tours from the beginning. I guess this may have had something to do with my background and the fact that I come from a family of teachers. Thus, early on, I came to realise that being knowledgeable and outgoing were essential attributes in this field, with the former in constant need of improvement. However, like any other trade, guide work has its little secrets, which makes having a good mentor showing you the ropes quite important. l was fortunate enough to find one in the person of Francois and although I decided to go my own way as an independent guide in late 2012, I am still happy to call him my friend. Since that moment, I have been offering Normandy tours for over a decade now covering different aspects of the history of Normandy: D-Day/Operation Overlord, Mont Saint Michel, William the Conqueror and the Middle Ages, cheese and cider route, etc. My customers come from different parts of the world and flexibility has always been a contributing factor to the success of my tours. Most tour formulas can be customised to fit the visitors' plans and interests. In addition, having an accredited transport license enables me to play the role of guide-driver by accommodating the guests in my vehicle. Alternatively, I can always ride with my customers in their rental car, minibus, coach, etc. To conclude, I just want to add that I am fully aware of the fact that to many a traveler, a visit to Normandy is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It is the reason why I strive to make each tour as interesting and meaningful an experience as possible.
