I am glad you decided to visit one of the most beautiful and diverse countries in the world, the country called The pearl of 1000 islands (we have 1244 of them, really!), or 'the Mediterranean as it once was'!

My name is Matt and I come from the south of Croatia, the region of incredible beauty called Dalmatia (yeah, those cute, black-spotted dogs come from here, too!). I originate from island Hvar and live in the capital of Dalmatia - 1700 y/o UNESCO city Split.

I love history, Arts and nature, and I enjoy sharing the beauty of my region with my guests. My biggest passions are traveling and exploring new cultures, customs and people (I consider myself lucky being able to visit more than 70 countries so far), gastronomy and wines, foreign languages, photography, literature, architecture, geography and international politics. I love taking part in pub quizzes / trivia nights and also I am a big fan of outdoor activities: biking, hiking, sailing, kayaking. .

I have a degree in history and a master's degree in marketing in tourism.

At age 18, at my first year of university, I became a licensed tour guide, and that is when my professional career in tourism and travel started.

In my tour guide's career, since 1999, I have shown my country to thousands of guests from all over the world. I have been working with the main tour operators from Croatia, US, UK & Australia. I have been guiding and organizing tours and customized and tailor-made itineraries for individuals and groups all around Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Bosnia and 25 other European countries.

I have also been organizing congresses, business meetings, conferences and team buildings in Split and other beautiful locations in Croatia.

In 2010, among the first European guides (as the 1st guide in Croatia!), I joined the Tours by Locals team. I am very proud that today, with over 420 bookings, I am by far the most booked Tours by Locals guide in the entire region.

Plitvice waterfalls are a part of our UNESCO heritage and the biggest natural attraction in Croatia. CNN Travel declared Plitvice as one of 25 world's greatest natural wonders!

The National park is composed of almost 30. 000 hectares of woods and a dramatic string of 16 turquoise-colored lakes connected by a series of more than 100 waterfalls and cascades. The biggest of them - The Great Waterfall - is 78m / 255ft high.

The water flowing over the limestone and chalk has, over thousands of years, deposited travertine barriers, creating natural dams which in turn have created a series of beautiful lakes, caves and waterfalls. These geological processes continue today.

The park forests are home to 120 species of birds, as well as deer, boar, wolf and bear.

Well-laid out system of wooden walkways will allow us to pass all around the lakes and waterfalls and at the certain points we will use park trains and eco-boats to pass from one side of the lake to another.
