To become one you need experience so I've started gaining mine since I was 20 years old, leaving my hometown and exploring other countries, meeting new people and trying to learn something new every day. I've received my degree in International relationships and oriental studies In 2003. Never worked with my profession because it was hard to find a job at that time so I had to improvise. I've worked as a Journalist and documentary filmmaker before moving into tourism and hospitality. Georgia started to become popular tourist destination from 2004. There were only few agencies operating at that time and even less qualified guides, so we opened small company in the hart of an old city. Me and my friends were organizing and conducting private and joint tours around the country.
I have worked as a tour operator and guide more than 10 years explaining to our guests what's really unique about Georgia. How we managed to conserve our language, religion and traditions despite all this wars and battles throughout the history. One of the most notable things I've learned so far is an approach. I would like to consider that every person needs to be treated differently, accordingly to their preferences. Every time I am going to meet new people I like to think they are my personal guest, even friends.
I've worked in different tour agencies but becoming a freelancer gave me new possibilities. During the private tour we can have more control of our time. we can be more flexible changing locations and duration according to what is best at the moment.
I am marred and have two small daughters. In future I am thinking going back to my academic life and finish my masters in international relationships.
Thank you for your time.
A Recent Review of this guide
Mate is a helpful and dependable guide. He gives you tips and tricks on where to eat as well as what the best dishes are in a restaurant. He lent us money to pay for accommodation when we didn't have local money yet and even helped our friend look for her phone that she dropped in the forest. He also coordinated with our Azeri guide picking us up from the border to ensure that he will be at the right place. We got to enjoy Georgia with him as our guide. Good driver and excellent guide. Highly recommended
