See Valencia Whilst Focusing On The Sensory Experiences Of Spain
Valencia is not just a city rich with cultural and historical sites, but also with excellent Mediterranean cuisine that is little known, compared to our northern counterparts. In this tour, we will focus on tastings in our beautiful Art Nouveau-style Central Market, including different varieties of olives, fresh fruit and juice, chocolate, cheese, dried vegetables and dehydrated fruit candy and some of the best Iberian ham in the world. I am happy to cater this tour to any dietary restrictions.
We will try at least 2 Spanish wines and a cava. During our time together, I will also point out cultural and historic sites in the city center, and I will be taking you to 2 important regions for Valencian food: our lagoon rice paddy region and the town of Alboraya for the famous horchata sweet drink to finish.
Please note, we are standing up and visiting several vendors in Central Market. If you would like a traditional, sit-down paella lunch, please feel free to select a full day tour.
Pick-up at the port or at your lodging, followed by a panoramic view of Valencia by car, whilst heading out to visit lagoon region, driving through rice paddies and have a picture stop on Spain's largest lake. I'll explain the interesting history of rice dishes and processes and of course our famous paella. We will park in the historical center and walk to our Central Market, the largest covered food market in Europe. There we will sample several typical and unique items to Spain and the Valencia area in the many vendors here, such as olives, nuts and dried vegetables and fruit, local cheese and get a sample of the best Iberian ham in the world. We will sample at least 1 wine and cava, as well and some Valencian chocolate and olive oils, all LOCAL. Depending on your wish, we will have a typical lunch (not included, and ONLY IF you want to) of paella with 2-3 more tapas. We will finish at a special place to try the sweet horchata drink, unique to the Valencia region made of 'tiger nuts'.

Kate was great, saw great things, did great things and ate great things. The art/ engineering part was especially fantastic as we had an architect in our little group and he was thrilled with it. Just wish the ship's schedule allowed us more time in Valencia. We would have loved more time in the market
