Avoid the crowd
Let me show you Brussels in a different way: enjoying the lesser known gems, tasting perhaps some of our weird specialties, discovering why this was the home of surrealists like René Magritte, the place where singers like Jacques Brel were born, authors like Hergé created Tintin and Snowy and so much more.
The itinerary can change according to the weather conditions and to your specific interests, the location of your hotel, . . . A good place to start is uptown (Royal Parc) and then walking slowly into the heart of the city: the most beautiful square in the world (Grand Place) but also the Sablon area (chocolate, antiquities and one of the nicest little parks of Brussels), the Flea-market (seen in the Spielberg movie the Adventures of Tintin) and the Saint Catherine neighborhood where locals meet.

Dirk was a great guide. He not only gave us a tour of uptown and downtown Brussels, but also gave a history lesson too. The pace for our walking tour was very comfortable, and with stops for chocolate and waffles, we were quite happy. He also recommended a number of restaurants and all have been excellent. We truly enjoyed our tour and will book with Dirk again the next time in Brussels.
