This tour is closely related to the Ghent Classic tour, but for a more avid shopper.
Gent was a large and important city in Europe during the Middle Ages. It was larger then London and second only to Paris in size. Today, this pocket-sized metropolis comes alive each day with music, outdoor markets, higher education and verve, all amidst a landscape steeped in European history. On this 3-hour tour you'll get a glimpse of a medieval castle, called Gravensteen, built in 1180AD. You'll enter St. Bavo Cathedral, consecrated in 942AD. The Cathedral is also home to a great artistic masterpiece of the Renaissance-The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb- one of the most coveted paintings in the world. You'll see these highlights while exploring Ghent's trendy shops and tasting its delicacies-like beer-served continuously in Ghent since the Crusaders.
Some of the sights we will visit: the medieval port with its guild halls, the Belfry, The Cathedral, the city Unesco Heritage sights, the Castle of the Counts of Flanders. . . .
You will be taken to world-recognized landmarks and the hidden corners of Ghent which are within walking distance. Ghent has a car-free historical center. Added to your historic tour will be ample opportunities to experience local tastes and culture. You will visit authentic shops and boutiques-both trendy and traditional. If you'd like, you can experience Ghent's music and art, its places of gastronomic repute and its beer pubs of longstanding excellence. your preferences will be customized for your tour.
