Discover how Sevilla became in the 16th century the most popular city in the known world
Let's go back in time to the 15th and 16th century to understand how important became Sevilla since its port conected all Europe or the old world to the new world or what the called later, The Americas. Let's see the old port where 150 floats departure twice a year from Sevilla To America. Also we have time to talk about the Old Saylor's University (San Telmo Palace today) and time to croos the river and visit the charming quarter of Triana.
Walking by the river Guadalquivir we will recreate the point from where Fernando Magallanes started the first trip around the world in 1519.
We will see from the outside the oldest shipbuilders in Europe where the carabel "La Niña" was built.
All the records about that period are at the "Archivo de Indias". Let's visit the groundfloor (free entry) and talk about Colombus, Magallanes, Americo Vespuccio. let's talk about this dreammers who changed the world.
If there is a building important in Sevilla about Spain and America back to the old days, that would be Archivo de Indias, declared world heritage by the Unesco. We are allow to have a look inside to discover the 60 million documents kept in that archive. Our next step will be the Atarazanas. from the outside we will see the oldest shipbuilders in Europe, from 13 th century. The carabel "La Niña" was built there. Obiously we are on the way to the sea of Sevilla, the Guadalquivir river. There it is the popular Torre del Oro, one of the symbols of the city. Let's cross the river if you dare to get to Triana. Most of the saylors who departed to America will be from that quarter, like Rodrigo de Triana
On the way we will find the old saylor's University from the 17th century, the Palace of San Telmo today. Tehn let me show the monument dedicated to the first trip around the world that departured from Sevilla in 1519. We will end the tour at the monument of Colombus and the first trip to "The Americas".
