Santa Catarina is a small village that is easy to explore on foot. There are several womans weaving cooperatives where you can see the beautiful textiles being made into table coverings, clothing, and bed covers. The colors used on this side of the lake are bright vibrant blues, purples, and reds, woven into elaborate and beautiful designs.
You will walk through terraced fields of onion and garlic as they have been maintained for hundreds of years, and visit with the farmers.
Visit the home of a local Mayan healer (curasera). She will perform a healing or protection ceremony specifically for you. You will experience the ancient healing arts practiced by the Mayan for thousands of years. This is a unique opportunity to visit a local home and experience Mayan life for your self.
Meet with guide at Xocomil tour office or at your hotel in Panajachel or Santa Catarina. Travel by private vehicle to Santa Catarina. Enjoy a walking tour that takes you through the village and to several points of interests. You can visit women's weaving cooperatives to learn about the back strap loop, visit with the weavers, and try on the traditional outfits if you wish. Visit the historic church, and a shrine honoring St. Catherine. You have the unique opportunity to visit a local Mayan healer and have your own personal Fire Healing-Protection Ceremony performed for you. Afterwards travel by private vehicle back to the starting point.
