Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park is the oldest proclaimed national park in Southern Africa and where the rhino populations were saved from extinction in the 1960s. It is home to the Big 5 plus the majestic endangered Wild Dogs (also known as Painted Dogs), cheetah and other African wildlife.

You will join Ashley on this relaxed yet immersive African experience searching for wildlife, big and small, taking in the vast landscape, the stunning flora and fauna, and soaking up the sightings, sounds and smells of the African bush.

After docking in Richards Bay, your day will start with a scenic drive through to St Lucia and exploring the Western Shores of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, on a land safari. Home to many typically African animals, giraffe, zebra, elephant and buffalo, there is always plenty to see and learn about in the Western Shores, including the prolific bird life.

When your time has finished in the bush, you'll head to St Lucia town, a true hidden gem on South Africa's shores to join the afternoon boat cruise.

Lake St Lucia is renowned for its vast hippo population, it is the largest population in South Africa with over 800 hippos. As you cruise the lake, look out for bathing hippos, basking crocs and other wildlife that is coming to drink from the water's edge. You'll leave feeling like you have discovered paradise and a different side to South Africa.

When your time has finished in the bush, you'll head to St Lucia town, a true hidden gem on South Africa's shores. You'll have time to explore the town and enjoy some lunch before joining the afternoon boat cruise.

Nelson Mandela once said 'iSimangaliso must be the only place on the globe where the oldest land mammal (the Rhinoceros) and the world's biggest terrestrial mammal (the Elephant) share an ecosystem with the world's oldest fish (the Coelacanth) and the world's biggest marine mammal (the Whale)", it is a truly unique region and just waiting for you to explore.

You'll take a relaxed drive around the Park, searching for typical African wildlife, learning about the ecosystems, plant life and bird life that make this region so special. Stop to dip your toes into the warm Indian Ocean, maybe a snorkel at Cape Vidal (tide and weather dependent), enjoy a laid-back lunch within the reserve and finish the day feeling like you never want to leave.
