Hakan was a good guide but the stop at the carpet 'school' was a bit misleading. The 'girls' from the country' that were supposedly being trained to weave carpets were 30 -50 years old and there was pressure to buy a rug-it was not a demonstration. If you wish to buy a rug, there are hundreds to choose from but you will need several thousand dollars. Just skip the carpet demo and you will have a great experience.
TOURSBYLOCALS RESPONSE: Most guests ask me during the tour to see handcrafts in Turkey specially rugs/ carpets. I never push people to visit carpet factories. After a demonstration the staff ask them if they are interested. If so, they showcase different carpets and prices. But, they never push them to buy anything. Maybe, you felt this way, but they are not allowed to push people to buy since they are all supported by our Government. Most guests like this kind of demonstration since handmade rug is part of our culture.
