From Jamie's (an Englishman) description, we expected someone who has been in Hong Kong for forty years to be more "Chinese" but were disappointed that he spoke no Chinese and did not eat a lot of Chinese food that most locals do. The tour had a lot of walking so unless you are fit, I would not recommend this tour. He did not offer a lot of comment during the tour is we had to ask questions to find out information. However, he is a pleasant and friendly person and knows his way around.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Mr. Quan is entitled to his opinion, this was a lovely group of people, 6 in all, all with their own needs and requirements and I spent as much time with everyone as I could. As for not speaking Cantonese, simply put Cantonese is one of the hardest languages in the world to learn and I have no ability in this area!I have never had a problem in Hong Kong with my lack of Cantonese, we ate Chinese food at quite simply the best Chinese Restaurant in Hong Kong and the group were thrilled with the choice!
TOURSBYLOCALS RESPONSE: We've reviewed Jamie's profile and note that he promotes himself as 'English, living in Hong Kong for 35 years and in love with the city'. Jamie's tours are all walking tours, but he does suggest using public transit if necessary.
