Traveling with Kumi was a delight - just like traveling with a friend. She met us at the pier from our cruise. We went to a small ramen restaurant which was amazing, then traveled to different neighborhoods in Tokyo using the subway. She managed to cram all of our requests into one day, was very knowledgeable, and also was fun to hang out with. Her ability as a photographer, giving us free pics of us during our travels, made it extra special and less stressful for us. Thanks Kumi for perfect day in Tokyo!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Joey and Kris, thank you so much for your comment. It may have been a tough day for you because of the heat and humidity, but WE DID IT!!! I'm glad we were able to cover all of your requests. Yet, there are a lot more things to show you here, so, please, please come to Japan again for a longer stay. Tokyo has so many interesting spots and also there are attractive day-trip destinations like Kamakura, Kawagoe, etc. Looking forward to your next visit. :)

Kumi was an absolutely charming guide. She showed us a great contrast between old and new Japan on our tour. An added advantage is that she is an accomplished photographer and took over 100 photos during the day.....you can just enjoy the tour without worrying about capturing the experience. Kumi is delightful company and I would highly recommend her services.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Scott, thank you very much for your lovely comment! I really enjoyed having time with you. Glad to hear that you enjoyed my photos. It seems photography and guiding are a good match! By the way, I checked the market share of beer companies in Japan. It turned out 1: Asahi, 2: Kirin, 3: Suntory, 4: Sapporo. Thanks for this very interesting question. I'll talk about this during the future tours. :)

Kumiko was The Best tour guide I ever had thus far since I started with ToursByLocals services whenever I go out of country. She was not only knowledgeable and professional but had the kindest warm heart. (1) I had a train ticket that needed to be adjusted. Kumiko wrote a letter for me to show the ticket representative instructing the necessary adjustment. (2) I took lots of photos but Kumiko also had her own camera and took 92 photos of our tour. This was a gift for me.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Sheena, thank you so much for such a sweet comment! I'm very honored. Writing some Japanese and sending the screenshot is what I often do for assisting people in the distance. I always wish to give travelers the best support just like helping my close friends. In fact, I felt two of you very close by the time the tour ends and now I miss you so much. Please, please come to Tokyo again! I'll keep exploring Tokyo and show you some other exciting spots.

Perfect day! Can't say no more. We went on a special tour just for me. Old Tokyo Neighbourhood. And the new and upcoming designers quarters. We finished the beautiful day at a special saké bar. Awesome all the way.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Fatti, thank you very much for taking my tours for five days in total! As time went by, I felt as if you are my true aunt and it was a great fun to explore Tokyo with you based on your requests. You are such an eye-opener in many senses and I already miss you so much! Please, please come to Tokyo again!! I'll keep exploring and find a lot more interesting, exciting, and fun spots to show you.

I loved Kamakura! We had a gorgeous day. Matcha tea in the bamboos garden. Lunch in a delicious Japanese restaurant. And shopping, people are so amazing in Japan.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Fatti, visiting Kamakura with you was a lot of fun, especially the photo session with the high school girls! I was always impressed with your passion to try new things. I never thought we would go into the owl cafe in Kamakura. LOL You really opened my eyes. Because you jumped into places, I ended up learning a lot about each area. Now I'm really looking forward to your next visit to Japan. Where should we go next? :)

This tour with Kumiko was very easy. We changed our day as the day we were going was raining. The train ride was good. Kumi very quickly understood my likes and dislikes. With a lot of ease adapted the tour to suit me. I personally recommend Kumiko and her smile in ALL situations. Thank you.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Fatti, you are the most difficult, the most energetic, and the most lovable tourist. :) Every time you suddenly say, "I want to go to XXX" "I want to buy XXX," I got surprised and found the ways. After all, I learned a lot from you! You really taught me how to enjoy life. Thank you so much for all these amazing opportunities!!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Fatti, thanks for the 5 stars. As you left this blank, I'll write down what we did on this afternoon. We had very nice Japanese soba. Then you suddenly said you want to go to the cat cafe and we both enjoyed SO much! Then we had tea at a hidden tea house. It was very spontaneous but very much fun!

Kumiko is a delightful person. Before I arrive she sent me emails to get to know my interests. She's met me at my hotel with a smile. We spent a very peaceful afternoon in the gardens and cruise and making wished in the park, in the shrine, in the wishing drawers. She did everything and more to my desired. Window Shopping etc. I am seeing her for the next days - more tours. I love Tokyo! Thanks to Kumiko and the Japanese I encountered till now.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Fatti, thank you very much for your lovely comment. It was really a fun afternoon for me too. I'm glad you found the socks you were looking for. Well, it was our first day. At this moment, I didn't expect we had four more days of great joy. (to be continued...)

Kumi was a fantastic and enthusiastic guide. She contacted us shortly after booking and gave us some very useful tips to help us prepare for our trip to Tokyo. Sent us a welcoming message when we arrived and sent us detailed description as to where to meet. Met up no issues and on the tour we went. Very informative and passionate about Tokyo Kumi is. She also gave us tips on what to do over the next few days as well as photos she took over the time with us. Kumi is highly recommended!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Lisa, thank you so much for your comments! It was really my pleasure guiding you in Tokyo. As you seemed very interested in cultures and histories, I tried giving you all the information I have about Japan. I'm glad you tried some food on Nakamise Shopping street in Asakusa and thank you for sharing some. Do you remember the restaurant on the 42nd floor of the building? Now it's added on my favorite restaurant list and I'm thinking about taking my friends and family there. :)

My family of 4 spent a wonderful day with Kumiko. We learned so much about Tokyo and Japanese customs. She was wonderful with my boys and really had them in mind while planning the day. For example, we visited the MegaWeb Toyota showroom in Odaiba which the boys still talk about as their favorite part of our trip. She was fun and engaging and also full of advice for us regarding the rest of our stay. Also, as an added bonus, Kumiko sent us hundreds of wonderful photos she had taken of our day.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Jocelyn, it was such a fun day for me too! Your boys are SO cute!! I miss all of you very much. I've been taking my clients to Odaiba a lot of times, but I haven't explored the sports area where you can try basketball on wheelchair etc. I'm sure some of my future clients (especially with kids) would love that area, so thanks for the opportunity. I still have many other areas to show you in Tokyo, so please please come again!

Kumi is the perfect guide. Our afternoon with her was like having a personal tour by a close friend who lives in Tokyo. She provided lots of background information about local customs, history, language, food, public transport - everything we wanted to know. She obviously loves her job and was happy to spend extra time with us at the end of the tour. I wanted to buy a special fountain pen so Kumi helped us find the store and act as a translator for us. What a gem!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Martin, thank you so much for such lovely compliments! I've been always trying to be visitors' best friend who knows Tokyo well, so if you felt that way, I'm SO happy about it! Visiting the stationary shop was really my pleasure. If you need to go back there, I'd be happy to come with you again and again!

Kumiko recommended Kawagoe as a short trip outside Tokyo. We thoroughly enjoyed the train ride out to Kawagoe, with beautiful sceneries along the way. The shops and streets in Kawagoe are quaint with beautiful cherry blossoms at the temple. Ended the day with a relaxing river cruise on Sumida River. This was Day 2 of our tour with Kumiko. Again, we had lots of fun together. She is full of helpful and interesting information at every place we visited. We highly recommend Kumiko!!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Peter, the views from the train to Kawagoe were amazing, weren't they? It was such a joy for me to see you guys enjoying taking photos. The evening cruise on Sumida River was lovely. And the ramen was fun and delicious!! When you plan the next adventure in Japan, please let me know a.s.a.p.

We had two days of local tours with Kumiko. We made contacts a few weeks before our arrival and Kumiko has helped us plan the itinerary including alternative scenarios and helped to booked the river cruise and special restaurants she had recommended. From day 1, we struck a bond with her and had lots of fun discovering Tokyo together. Sharing our passion for photography, laughter and taking candid shots of us, we have lots of precious memories and momentos from our tour. We highly recommend Kumiko!!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Peter, thank you so much for your sweet comment. I really enjoyed the planning and I felt so happy when I saw the cherry blossoms forecast. You guys are super lucky!!! Such a perfect timing!! I can still picture the beautiful scenes by the Meguro River. Thank you for this great opportunity!

Kumi was an amazing guide!! My daughter and I really enjoyed our time with Kumi! She gave us a lot of great information and history about the all the places we visited and took great photos to share with us as well. Kumi was also very flexible with the things we did to make sure we joyed every second of our time together! I can't wait to come to Japan again and tour with Kumi.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Ashley, thank you very much for your lovely comment. It was really fun taking photos with you all day. I'm glad we changed the plan and spent a lot of time in Odaiba. That's always a kids' paradise. I'm looking forward the day you come to Japan again. I'll find some other fun spots for a bit older children by then. :)

We spent two days with Kumiko as our tour guide. She developed an itinerary that provided us with a great tour of Tokyo, showing us not only the "tourist" things that one must see, but also taking us to places "off the beaten path". Having her navigate for us around the city allowed us to make the most of our 2 days! Our time with Kumiko was perfect!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Randy, it was really fun for me to come up with the plan to accommodate all your wishes. It was like an exciting puzzle game! In fact, when I finally made the itinerary, I got too excited and couldn't sleep for a while. LOL And it was really my pleasure to see you super excited at the chopsticks shop and in the underground world (Omotesando Hills). Hope you have another chance to come to Japan and see more things with me. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys again!

Kumiko was Fabulous! Gave a GREAT tour and helped us feel comfortable from the first moment. She put together a great itinerary that allowed us to see so much of Tokyo and explained so much of the history of the places we were seeing. We know that we were able to see so much more of Tokyo than we would have seen on our own. She was comfortable to be with and the extra bonus were the spectacular photos that she took that, in the end, gave us a real photo documentary of our time in Tokyo.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Randy, thank you very much for such a sweet comment. I myself really enjoyed having time with you two. Also, I really thank you and your cousin for giving me this opportunity to take you to Tsukiji because I had been avoiding Tsukiji Market. Even though a lot of guides were saying the people at the market are not welcoming, we met a lot of friendly people in the outer market. So now I'm very confident about visiting there. It was really an eye-opener! I will never forget about the packing machine. :P

This was my fourth and final tour with Kumi during my stay in Tokyo. What an action packed day! The rain decided to join us on our journey to/ from Kamakura but Kumi's amazing energy created an amazing day. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who will be in the area. It encompasses the true spirituality of the area, from the Hokoku-Ji Bamboo Temple, to the coast, to the Great Buddha. The only bad part of the day was the sad goodbye after an incredible week with Kumi.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: We did a lot!!! It was a rainy day, but we both were energetic enough to see a lot of different things. Hokoku-ji Temple is my all-time favorite. I'm very glad I had this opportunity to take you there and have matcha green tea together. Enoden (the train) along the coast was cute, wasn't it? (And the school girls!!) The cave adventure at Hase Temple and going inside the Great Buddha at Kotokuin Temple were fun too. And yes. I felt really sad to say goodbye to you. Please come again for another adventure.

This was my third tour with Kumi during my week long stay in Tokyo. The weather worked in our favor this day for sure. We had a lovely sunny day so we headed to Tokyo Sky Tree (we SAW Mt. Fuji!!), had lunch at one of Kumi's favorite places, visited Sensoji Temple and ended the day at the Tokyo National Museum. AMAZING day. I really love hearing the history and personal experiences of living in Tokyo.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: I'm super glad that I could show you Mt. Fuji from Tokyo Sky Tree because I kept checking the weather for days to pick the best day to go up there. The restaurant in Asakusa is another good example of "cheap but delicious" food in Tokyo. You may have been surprised to see Tokyo is not always super expensive. You seem to have really enjoyed Sensoji Temple trying some "spiritual" stuff. Oh, and the museum! I'm very surprised we spent so much time there. It was my joy showing you the history of Japanese art.

This was my second tour with Kumi during my week in Tokyo. She took me (via train) to Meiji Shrine, Omotesando Avenue, and Shibuya Crossing. A day of serenity, architecture, hidden gem tea house, "high-tech sushi" and Hachi's statue. : ) Beautiful weather and fun times.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: On the second day, I already felt as if you are my friend from high school. That was really a fun girl's day. I'm very impressed to see you bowing at the torii gates. Your moves were really natural as if you were Japanese. The tea room was amazing, wasn't it? I'm glad I discovered the place recently. Didn't know you love the movie "Hachi: A Dog's Tale." I'm glad I chose to take you to Shibuya by chance. This was a custom tour, but I'm now thinking about making this a new regular tour. :)

My husband was in in Tokyo for two weeks on business. He and his co-workers did not have much time during the week to see Tokyo so I decided to find something for them to do on their free weekend. Kumi created a lovely day seeing the "old" and the "new" of Tokyo. Our group of 4 had an amazing day and made a new friend. : )

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Jeaneen, it was lovely meeting you, your husband, and his co-workers. I felt as if I've known you guys for a very long time. I still cannot forget the moment they saw the pudding at the shop. That was hilarious, wasn't it? I'm glad they will have many more chances to come to Japan. Please give my best regard to them. :)

Kumi was charming to be with and certainly knew her way around Tokyo. Would have liked a little more history as we are history nutcases. Nothing was too much trouble and she was very kind and thoughtful . We have no hesitation in recommending Kumi.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: It was great spending time with you both! I was concerned I may have talked too much about history including Hamarikyu, Senso-ji, the pagoda, Odaiba, Japan's isolation policy and Commodore Perry's visit. It's wonderful that you have such a deep interest in the history of our beautiful country. Now that I know how much you really love history, I hope I'll have the opportunity to go into even greater detail on your next visit. PS. I always welcome your further questions about your single-lens reflex camera.
