We really loved our virtual tour of Ketchikan. Even though we have been there before, Cruin told us a lot of new fun facts about his city. He was extremely knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. We almost felt like we were right there. We look forward to meeting you in person!
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Barbara, Thank you so much for this kind review. It was such a pleasure to meet you and your husband. You are such a fun couple. I would love to meet you both in person. One day, when this pandemic is over, we will have to do that.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you, Leah It was such a pleasure to meet you again, and to meet your dad. I was proud, and had great fun, introducing him to my friends in Ketchikan. Cruin is a Scotsman who settled in Alaska, an interesting mix of cultures and accents. He knows the techniques of the totem pole carvers and brought his tools to show us how they are made. He also gave us a chance to try our hand at it, harder than it looks. Cruin knows all the stories behind the carvings and tells them with the heart of the storyteller he is. He made the history and lore of Ketchikan come alive for us, a thoroughly enjoyable tour in every way.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you Zara, It was such a pleasure to meet you and Mary and show you around Ketchikan and Totem Bight. I do hope you both keep well, and I hope we get to meet again some day. Thank you for getting your daughter to check the Russian on Tongass. Regards, Cruin.

This was a great tour. He had good humor
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you, Jacqueline. I thought your whole group had great humor, and was very pleased to meet them. I hope you come back again someday. Regards, Cruin.

Cruin provided my wife and I with a wonderful introduction to Ketchikan and the surrounding area! He was very personable and knowledgeable about Tinglit culture & the totem poles they carved. We deviated from the written description to see eagles along the shore south of town and watch salmon swimming upstream. All in all a very good tour.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you Timothy. It was a pleasure to meet you and your wife. I hope we get a chance to meet again. Cruin.
Our group of four found our guide Cruin exceptional. He met us right on time. We toured all the wee places we wanted to see, and a little more. We shared our stories and had good laughs. (locals learn how to live with the bears!) He is an experienced tour guide for sure ! At the end of our tour, we felt we had learned a lot about a life in Ketchikan as we said goodbye to a friend. Jo - Canada
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Merci beaucoup, Jo. I had so much fun with you guys, and was sorry when we had to say goodby. Thank you for wearing tartan leggings (you are such fun). I can't wait to see the picture of you in front of the raging waterfall. Salut! Cruin.

We had a private group tour of 9 participants. Cruin was late arriving but that was because his driver had a family emergency and was not able to join us. We all LOVED our time with Cruin. Because of the unexpected emergency he was driver and tour guide. Cruin was totally enjoyable and made us laugh many times throughout our tour and had wonderful stories to share. He was extremely personable and I would highly recommend his Totem Bight tour.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you Kari. I had great fun that day, and great fun meeting your family. As your dad said, it worked out just fine that my driver could not show, we had a great time with me driving and doing the tour -- I might purchase a larger tour vehicle next year, so avoiding the complication of a separate vehicle with driver. I worried that I might loose the intimacy of a private tour if I did the driving for a larger group, but it worked just fine with our group. You have a lovely family. Cruin.

Cruin was a wonderfully entertaining and enlightening guide, making the most of our brief stay in Ketchikan. Our group ranged from grandchildren age 9 and 11, grandparents in their late 70s, plus two friends in their 60s. Cruin tailored the entire experience to keep all of us enthralled: a tidepool visit (including wee crabs to hold), birdcall identification, lots of sightings of bald eagles, tales of Tlingit lore, and a lesson in totem carving. He was a total delight, the very best of the best!
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you so much, Martha. I loved our time together, and it was such a delight to meet you and all your family. Thank you also, for the movie of one Koala Bear slapping the other -- I still laugh each time I see it. I do hope we all get to meet again one day. Regards, Cruin.

Our tour with Cruin was an excellent look into Ketchikan. Our whole family (including children ages 19, 14, and 11) found the totem poles and the stories behind them very interesting. We then headed out and Cruin took us to a few spots to view eagles and bears. Cruin is a wealth of knowledge about the history of Ketchikan, the flora and fauna of the area, and is great with adults and kids alike. We highly recommend Criun to those visiting Ketchikan!
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you, Neil for this kind review. I had a great time that day. I am glad you got to see a bear, and when it came across the river right in front of us, I was so pleased, for all of you and, of course, myself. I do hope we get to meet again some day. Regards, Cruin.

Cruin is very personable and knowledgeable. He was quite accommodating with respect to our schedule. Our only criticism was he seemed to be stretching to find attractions (e.g. the public library) while we were more interested in the iconic totem poles and wildlife. He knew the wildlife spots and we saw a lot. He was extremely familiar with totem poles (including the artists) but did not go out of way to view them. Very helpful with the local eateries and good art shopping (non-tourist).
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you for this useful review, Gary. I was very pleased to meet both you and your wife. I am sorry the library was not your thing. Some love seeing the library, and the local art displayed within, but I guess for you, I should have spent more time on totem poles, which I actually avoided a wee bit, because I did not want you or your wife to have to walk too far. I guess I could have judged that better, so I am sorry. I really enjoyed us going to the Dairy Queen & Asylum, and then taking you shopping.

Cruin is a good guy and has a lot of knowledge of the area. Besides touring the local area, he provided us with a vast knowledge of the salmon spawning cycle, bears and other wildlife, etc. We had a good time and would recommend him to anyone visiting the Ketchikan area.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you, Daniel. I enjoyed meeting you both. I hope you come back some day. Regards, Cruin.

Very knowledgable local. Extraordinary storyteller and tailored the tour to us. We all loved getting to learn exactly how totem poles are made and he was willing to let us spend more time on the beach and forest. Great conversationalist and wide ranging knowledge. You can't go wrong with him.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you, Heather. I so enjoyed meeting you and your family. I loved our time on the beach, and will never forget the girls holding eels and stuff on the beach -- that was a really pretty wee eel. Regards, Cruin.

Our experience with Cruin was just OK. He was clearly passionate and knowledgeable about the history of Ketchikan but he seemed either distracted or unprepared. At one point a local joked with him about the tour and he replied by saying he was making it up as he went along - it kind of felt that way.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hello Tracey, thank you for your review and feedback. Allow me to apologize if I appeared distracted, in a effort to provide the changes your party requested, I needed to make some changes on short notice. I was happy to make the changes to the itinerary to suit your requests. I wish I could have been a better tour guide for you. I hope you were able to enjoy the time you spent in Ketchikan.

When Cruin found out I was a librarian while on the tour, he personalized the tour by a visit to the beautiful Ketchikan Public Library, he also took us by the church where my husband's mother had been baptized. A private guide is so much more interesting than a big ship shore excursion.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thanks Nelda, I am very proud of our fantastic library, and the art displayed there. I had great fun showing it to you and your husband. I also loved I got to show you the church where your mum-in-law had been baptized. I am only sorry that she is no longer with us, and so could not come and see it for herself. Regards, Cruin.

What a joy! Cruin is definitely the 'best friend you have never met'. He is part of our family now! His passion for Alaska and the native people and forests is infectious. We love his humor, his knowledge, and his caring manner. Meet Cruin and your life will never be the same.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Linda, thank you so much for your kind words, and thank you for welcoming me into your family. I loved meeting you all, and loved the time we spent together. I really look forward to meeting you all again (either here or in Texas). Please keep in touch, and let me know how you are all doing.
Cruin was very accommodating and made the tour interesting for all of us, including my 11 year old son.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you Abigail. It was an honor to meet you and your whole family, from parents to grandchild -- you are blessed. Maraming salamat!

Cruin gave us a fabulous tour of Ketchikan in a highly engaging way. He is knowledgeable, professional, and his warm personality and fun sense of humor were a delight for my family of four. The restaurant choice was excellent. We highly recommend this tour.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thanks Stefanie, that was such a fun day. I am so glad we decided to go round the back of City Park, and discovered the Trout Derby going on. It was all such fun, and so great to meet you and your family. I hope we meet again.

Wow! What an amazing day we all had... Cruin was one of the best guides we had on our tour. Knowledgeable , interesting , kind, humorous and nothing was too much trouble. The tour was well thought out and we saw north and south of the island. We are going to Ketchikan again next year and I will be using cruin again. We saw twice as much as anyone on the ships tours and we didn't feel rush it was all at a relaxed pace Thank you cruin for an amazing day
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Nicky, thank you so much. I had a fantastic day with you and your friends. Every one of you was someone I am glad I got to meet. Thank you for making the whole thing so much fun. I do hope you come back, and I do hope I get to meet you again. Cruin.

We had been to Ketchikan twice before and were looking for a different experience. Cruin is a gem-we felt like a found family friend showed his his favorite places-and we got a true sense of life in Ketchikan!
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you Bettina. I really enjoyed meeting you both. By the way, looking at the the etymology of "Kilburn" I see that some references guess the "Kil" part comes from a Celtic or Old English personal name "Cylla" and I can see that -- although I still think it might be from the Celtic "Cill" for "cell" and later small church (or monastic cell). All seem to agree with me that the "burn" part is from the Celtic (or Indo-European) "burna" for small stream. So, definitely not Norman. I think pre-Norman.

Cruin was very informative and obviously knew his town and state very well. It was very exciting to see humpback whales close to shore.

We had a great time in Ketchikan and mostly because of the "spirit of Cruin". He picked us up promptly from the cruise ship dock and took us off for a tour of Ketchikan and a totem pole history lesson. The largest collection of Native American totem poles (in the world) is in Ketchikan Alaska! Cruin can share lots of information about this art and also gives a "hands-on" carving lesson along the way. We also went to a waterfall that was absolutely beautiful. The day flew by and we shared lots of LOL!
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you Gayle, I really enjoyed meeting you and your husband. I had a great day too, and really enjoyed our time together. I hope you come back some day. Cruin.
Cruin was fantastic. He knows so many stories and explained everything about Ketchikan. And we really had much fun on this day. We were in Ketchikan for 1 day during a cruise and wanted to see as much as possible in a short time. Another reason for looking for a private tour is that I am handicapped and cannot negotiate the stairs into a bus or keep pace with a big group and we (2 persons) can only highly recommend to go with Cruin.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you Martine, for this very kind review. I too had a lot of fun on our day together. I really enjoyed the tour, and also really enjoyed our conversations. It was my pleasure and my privilege to meet you. I do hope you come back some day. Regards, Cruin.

We had a wonderful tour of Ketchikan with Cruin! He is an absolutely lovely person and has an amazing knowledge of Ketchikan. Three of us toured in his car, walked around various sites and saw a lot of Ketchikan - the outskirts and the town itself. I would highly recommend Cruin, who dresses in his Scottish kilt, and knows and loves Ketchikan.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you, Susan, for the very kind review. I really enjoyed getting the chance to show you around at least a wee bit of our town and island. It was my pleasure, and my privilege. Do come back again. Cruin.
Lynne G.Houston, TX, United States
Cruin met our ship and pointed out various buildings and the statute of the eagle near the cruise terminal. He has a great sense of humor and lots of excellent and interesting background knowledge about his town. Nothing was too much trouble and he managed to show us all the interesting sights, including taking us down to the beach! He is a wonderful entertaining guide and we had a great few hours with him. I highly recommend Cruin.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you, Lynne, for this so kind review. I too really enjoyed our tour, and enjoyed meeting you both. I hope you had a great time on the rest of your cruise through Alaska, and I do hope you come back. It would be my pleasure to meet you again some day.

Cruin was a character! He arrived at the ship to meet us in a KILT! He was knowledgeable and very friendly.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you Rosemary. I just thought everyone arrived to give tours in kilts!

Cruin is a knowledgable, interesting and funny guide. We enjoyed his demonstration of how totem poles are made and then letting us try using the native tools. Cruin seems to know everyone in town. It was fun to wander into a shop and go over to the artist who working on a new item and realize that Cruin is a good friend of his. The highlight was we ask were the locals got their fish and chips, we ended up at little cafe that was just two storage containers. The fish and chips were awesome.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Hi Michael, Thank you so much for your kind words. Both Elizabeth and I really enjoyed meeting you and having lunch with you at AJ's. I loved the pictures Camarillo sent. What a beautiful day that was. Congratulations! on the new Granddaughter, Penelope! (What a lovely name). We are so excited for you! Give her, and her mother a kiss for us, and know that they both have our wishes and prayers. If you get the chance, send a picture. Regards, Cruin.
Cruin was very entertaining and very knowledgeable about the area and history. We all enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend Cruin's walking tour.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you, Barbara. I had great fun that day, and I am glad I got to show you some of our town and our culture.
