Lovely (long) day! Javier was immensely knowledgeable about Ecuador, and it was fun to chat with him on the long drive. I would have loved to have been able to take advantage of his other tours he offers. Only thing that caught me by surprise was a line I missed regarding paying extra if you have 4 people. We needed to pay $70 for a driver of a van. Javier let me know the morning of, and it just caught me off guard.

Javier was knowledgeable about everything we asked him. We enjoyed the two hikes and the contrast between the lakes and elevations. The high light was the forest, El Bosquete de Polypepis, which has twisted trees and caves. A great place to explore. Javier was patient with my kids (7 and 11). The younger walked slowly and wanted to look at every flower, and my eldest talked nonstop to Javier on the return hike. The trout lunch was also delicious. You'll end up eating late (~2 pm) so pack lots of snacks.

We spent two days with Javier in the country surrounding Cuenca, Ecuador, including Cajas National Park. He was flexible with a number of logistical requests. He was very well informed about all topics, including flora and fauna. We peppered him with diverse questions, and he had answers. He was a terrific guide. And he was fun to be around!

Wow! What a stunningly beautiful park. If I ever return to Ecuador, I want to come back here and see more. Javier brought us to a couple different locations in the park where we were able to walk around, take pictures, and enjoy nature. He was very knowledgeable about the park, and we learned a lot during the hikes. Definitely would recommend that you book this tour!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you Amanda for your review, I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the Cajas tour with me. I will be very happy to have you as my guests in future trips around Cuenca and Ecuador!

We really enjoyed our tour to Ingapirca with Javier. He was really knowledgeable about the ruins and provided a lot of interesting information. He was also very flexible and gave us some additional options of things to do after the ruins. In addition to visiting Chordeleg, we visited an orchid farm and a pottery maker which were really interesting and different! Overall, we had a great time and we would highly recommend booking a tour with Javier!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you for your feedback! I am glad you enjoyed the tour to Ingapirca and the craft making villages with me. The most important to me is that my guests enjoy the tours.

What a magical day. This was my second tour with Javier and, again, it exceeded expectations. He knows the places to go that would be very hard to find on your own. The second hike of the day in lower Caja was an experience I'll never forget. He drove us down this out-of-the-way road to a hidden lake nestled in the mountains. There are no words or pictures that can do it justice.

This was an outstanding tour. Javier was so attentive that we felt spoiled. He is like an encyclopedia on Ecuador. He effortlessly went from ancient history to crafting techniques to the flora of the country. I wasn't sure it was going to be worth the money for a private tour but it absolutely was. Javier took us to see things that are only available to someone who has spent years cultivating relationships. It was a stress free, fun, and perfect day.

Javier was our guide for 5 days traveling from Guayaquil, through Cuenca and north to Quito. We learned so much about Ecuador from Javier; its agriculture, history, politics, culture, educational system. An amazing driver, patient, careful. He knows many artisans and seemed to seek out the extraordinary in his country to show us. I am confident, if you find yourself in Ecuador and need a guide, you will be thrilled if it is Javier. Thank you Javier for making this one of our most memorable trips.

Javier was a great guide! His English is very good. We worked with him before our trip to arrange a four-day custom tour. He was very helpful setting this up. Part of our trip required driving from Guayaquil to Cuenca. Most of this trip is on curvy mountain roads. There is often fog. Javier was a super-careful driver and negotiated these roads in the fog and part of the trip was in the dark after sunset. He did a very good job. Javier was always on time. He is very knowledgeable. Everything went well!!

We were so fortunate to have Javier for a guide two days in a row. We spent the entire day with Javier. He picked us up at 7 and we drove through the country to the Devils Nose . Along the way we stopped for beautiful pictures. After the train ride Javier had a great sack lunch prepared for each of us. We then Went to Ingapirca. After a 10 hr day with Javier we didn't know where to eat so he made reservations for us at the "Tiestos Cafe Resturant" couldn't have asked for a more perfect day!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Lisa, Thank you so much for your feedback. I am so glad you enjoyed the Devil's Nose Train and Ingapirca Tour. Javier V

We booked Javier for a full day tour with pick up at the airport as we flew in at 7:30 AM. We were scheduled for a half-day city bike tour and half-day city overview tour. He checked the weather and switched things around so that we were doing the biking when there was no rain expected and everything worked perfectly the whole day. The bikes were great quality and we covered a lot of the city, including the Inca ruins within the city limits and lots of biking on paths along the rivers in the city.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Barbara, thank you so much for your feedback. I am glad you enjoyed your the Biking Tour. If you are ever back in Cuenca let me know! Javier

We wish we could give ten stars! Javier worked with us to design a tour that catered to our needs. We were worried about high altitude, so Javier designed a tour that still was the highlight of our trip. He has so many connections to excellent resources. We took a hike, rode a canoe in the beautiful mangrove swamp to see an amazing array of birds, with no other people! Javier is the best guide we had in Ecuador.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Denise, thank you again for your review! I am so glad you had a good time in Cuenca area.

We could not have had a better time or a better guide! Javier adjusted the time to fit our schedule. He took us to two villages and introduced us to artisans that have worked in their communities for generations. We saw hand dyed and woven textiles that were stunning. Even Selma Hayek shopped there! We visited a family jewelry workshop and watched the multiple steps and intricate craftsmanship in making exquisite silver jewelry. We cant thank Javier enough for this unique tour!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Denise, thank you so much for your feedback. I am glad you enjoyed our Gualaceo and Chordeleg craft-making villages tour. Hope to see you again in Cuenca!

We were so impressed with Javier's ability to adjust our tour when the bicycle company didn't come through with the bikes (in no way way that his fault). We spent a lovely and informative morning with him walking along the Rio Tomebamba learning about Educadorean culture, history, geography, and so much more! He took us in the Panama Hat Museum, which we'd visited before, but it was a whole new experience with his knowledge. We had a thorough guided visit to the Pumapongo Museum, which was a highlight!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Mary, Thank you so much for your review. I am glad you enjoyed our day tour in Cuenca in spite we could not do the biking activity.
