Words by & about Hans Christian Andersen, Karen Blixen and other local Storytellers
Get to know the capital of Denmark through the words of its best storytellers. If you love books and their adaptations as much as I do, this tour will serve as the perfect introduction to Copenhagen and Denmark.
On this private tour we will stop ever so often and hear words by the world famous fairytale writer Andersen, the dramatic and brilliant baroness Blixen and other wordsmiths that have had something to say about Copenhagen.
Be it the philosopher Kierkegaard, the Nobel prize winner Johannes V. Jensen or the author of Smilla's Sense of Snow, Peter Høeg, who foretold the wave of Nordic Noir -- we will listen and learn.
This walking tour works well as an add-on or a second day tour. I will tailor it to your literary taste - just contact me and tell me about your interests.
The Royal Library is the perfect place to start a literary tour of Copenhagen; the history, the ornaments, and the way old and new architecture blends together.
We will walk through old town and see both homes of authors and locations of scenes from quality Danish literature. Depending on your literary taste, I will tell stories from the era of any given author.
Towards the end of our tour, we will visit the cemetery where most Danish authors are resting. Not only to pay our respect but also to see a century long span of cultural history, several monuments by essential artists, and get a feel of the Danish Joi de Vivre.
If Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen) is your favourite Baroness, we could also change plans, go North and visit her former home, now a lovely little museum.
There is time for refreshments, photo stops and your questions.
. . . and if you are a truly dedicated fan of H. C. Andersen, we will take a trip to Odense - where he was born - the next day!

"The wise in any foreign country seek a true guide," Hafiz wrote. Sofie is that true guide: highly intelligent, well read, extremely knowledgeable - and most delightful. We toured the wonderful farmhouse of Karen Blixen (Out of Africa), and Sofie shared many insights into the author's life and character. Later we looked at iconic Danish products on display in the Design Museum, and Sofie kindly listed favorite shops that I might (and did) enjoy. A highlight of my monthlong European journey!
