Tour: #81429, Full Glasgow both Driving and Walking private tour from Edinburgh or Glasgow., Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom
Date: Jun 3/18

Toby took us for a full day of exploring Glasgow— both driving and walking. A passionate advocate of the architecture and history of a sometimes underappreciated city, he introduced us to multiple sites of the great Charles Rennie Macintosh and other great Scots architects. We enjoyed a rooftop view of Glasgow, strolled Buchanan pedestrian mall, explored Kelvingrove Museum and finished with the Cathedral. Toby was enthusiastic, thoughtful and just fun company. Highly recommended.

We hired Toby as our guide in both Edinburgh and Glasgow. The risk is...what if you don't get along so well in the first city and now you're stuck! No problem! Toby is a bit of a scholar so maybe on first impressions he seems perhaps removed. Not the case. We adored his intellectual enthusiasm. He has a keen interest in architecture and history and made the information relevant and provocative. He is warm and earnest in his desire to provide a great experience to interested travelers.

Taking this architecture themed walking tour of Glasgow with Toby was an exceptional experience. He came fully prepared with books and phamplets - a personalized itinerary - and a perfect disposition. Toby catered to all my questions and curiosities - he was a perfect host and made it easy to love this city.

Our private walking tour was actually a drive in traffic around Glasgow. Other then accompanying us to the cathedral and a very quick visit to the art school we walked our selves. Apparently the traffic in Glasgow is horrible and does not help - plus the ship docking in Greenock doesn't help. Not an appropriate tour for us.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: I offered to provide transportation for the tour (at my expense) as the trains were suffering from delays due to construction. Your response was that this new plan was 'perfect,' so I felt we had a clear understanding about that. I had suggested driving to the University, Hunterian, Kelvingrove & Pollock Park, but I got the impression that you were more interested in shopping, so I did leave you to that on your own. Thank you for your feedback, sorry you were disappointed in your tour.

Toby was awesome. We had flight problems and arrived much later than expected. He willingly adjusted our schedule and he was very flexible on changing our itinerary once he understood what really interested us. His knowledge of architecture was superior, which I appreciate.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: It was nice to be able talk about things that I think are important to somebody really interested with impressive knowledge themselves.

Toby was an excellent source of Glaswegian culture and history, knowledgeable about architecture, art and Glasgow's place in Scotland's history. He accommodated our relatively short visit time by collating historic and cultural commentary within the walking tour to give us the most informative tour. And he was able to work in a delicious local lunch and escort us back to Glasgow Central station for our transport back to our ship!
