Toby was terrific. Our flight was three hours late from the States but Toby was there at the Edinburgh airport to greet us and take us via a scenic route to our hotel in Glasgow (avoiding the worst of rush hour traffic). We made stops at the the beautiful bridges at the Firth of Ford, past the Kelpies and a short walk up to the Falkirk Wheel. He delivered us safely to our hotel (Blythswood Hotel) so we could rest up from our jet lag for a full day of touring next day...

Toby was fascinating! He was enthusiastic about his tour, showed me all sorts of curiosities of the city, and gave me a personal look at Edinburgh. His knowledge was vast, and I could have spent twice as many hours with him learning and being enthralled. He was awesome! I am particular and he didn't disappoint. Would hire a tour with him again in a heartbeat.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: That is so kind of you Elizabeth and somehow our lovely day together with so many connections including your mother's situation just seemed almost ordained for us. That is probably the nicest review I have ever read, but then you are a writer ! I hope the retreat was worthwhile and I am looking forward to mine over Xmas. Funnily enough I used some of my mother's poems I found in a little notebook at the funeral service which seemed so apt. Kindest Regards, Toby
My daughter and I had booked a walking tour of Edinburgh. Toby was our guide for the day - or rather the perfect companion to walk about the town. The passion he has for his hometown can be felt every step of the way and it is frankly contagious! Educational and intellectually stimulating are how I would best describe our tour. I will definitely book a tour with Toby again next time I visit Scotland.

We found Toby to be very knowledgeable about the history and architecture of Edinburg. He personalized the tour to match our interests and did a great job in doing so. I would recommend him to others and value his expertise.

Toby is exceptionally knowledgeable about Edinburgh's history and architecture, and a day spent with him opened up glimpses into the City that we would never have been able to discover on our own. It was wonderful to be give private access to the closed gardens of New Town, and the Old Parliment Building. And the Museum of Scotland was a most pleasant discovery, which we probably would have skipped. His opinions on the renovation and reuse of historic buildings were interesting to hear and discuss.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Doug, It thought it was a nice day but I am always a little bit disappointed to only have 4 stars. If there was anything at all you could tell me I could do better that you can just email directly. Toby

Toby is an exceptionally knowledgeable and conversant tour guide. The scope and breath of his historical knowledge and perspectives on all things Scottish - culture, history and architecture - made our trip one of the best we have ever had. He was prompt, exceedingly polite and carefully answered all of our questions with a graceful and respectful manner.

We had a wonderful experience with Toby during our full day walking tour of the Old aND New Cities. He was the ideal person to introduce us to Edinburgh, since we are interested in art, architecture, and history, and he is deeply knowledgeable in these areas and passionate about sharing what he knows. If we had wandered on our own for months we would have missed seeing several of the fascinating places he took us. And, he was a delightful companion. Thanks!

What a great experience! The best way to see a new city, especially if you haven't too much time! Our guide modified the tour to the time we had and to our interests. He was very knowledgeable and clearly knew and loved the city well. Thanks for a very good day.
My tour with Toby was very enjoyable. We had good weather, no rain, and Toby was filled with lots of information about areas of Edinburgh most people don't see. We walked thru out the city, thru neighborhoods, to the museum, into the castle-all along Toby described the history, architecture and answered my many questions. We stopped for a coffee in a quiet shop where Toby planned out the balance of our tour. I felt right at home talking with Toby and hearing the stories of the city. It was a great morning

This guide have a lot of knowledge about architecture and the history of Edingburgh. We found it interessting to se the trace og history in the buildings of the town. We were a quite large groupe (12) and the guide should pay more attention to have the group gathered before giving information on the different spots. We had a tour in Old Town and the Castle, but my favourite were the walk in Newtown.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: I was actually booked for up to 20 people and as I advised it is a bit of a walk and talk exercise at a time of year when weather was unpredictable as up to 6 people is best. Most of the school teachers responded very well especially as I planned sites I thought of of particular interest to them that seemed appreciated. I am very pleased they all enjoyed the Newtown and the universal delight of a coffee stop in a wonderful old bank. I have never before had a bad comment.

We toured Edinburgh and Glasgow between Christmas and New Year's and did not want to drive in Edinburgh. Toby solved this problem for us by using his very comfortable car and even picking us up and returning us to our country hotel, Cromlix House north of Dunblane. Tours of neighborhoods in both cities were great, especially the walk in the New Town park and seeing the former historic villages now right in the cities. Don't miss Glasgow Cathedral and the The Burrell Collection. Lovely pub, too.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: I enjoyed myself too and was a lovely couple of days with some interesting driving. Toby

Toby was very flexible with our walking tour itinerary, and gave us a fine introduction to Edinburgh as we strolled down the Royal Mile. A bit of rain was no problem as he knew where the cafes were, even when the usual ones were closed for Christmas Eve. Our group had many questions that ran a gamut of subjects, and Toby handled them all very capably, as he has an extraordinary range of knowledge and interests. We could have kept talking for many hours more!

We had a delightful day with Toby, exploring the beautiful city of Edinburgh. It's obvious that Toby loves his city and truly enjoys sharing its hidden gems with others. Toby brings his extensive knowledge of architecture to the experience, pointing out many interesting details that we certainly would have missed. We particularly appreciated that he was flexible, accommodating and anxious to adapt the tour to our interests. A day well-spent with one of Edinburgh's more charming residents!
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Debra, I loved your interest and enthusiasm and gearing things to your own interests is satisfying and makes the day more interesting for myself also. I hope the pictures all work out well. Toby.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you Kristin, I was equally enjoyable for myself to have people so interested. It was a lovely day out.
