Garvan is a true Irish treasure. His genuine passion for his country and its people comes through in his insightful stories of history, struggle, emigration and resurgence. Funny, informed, and personable, Garvan felt more like an old friend than a guide. Our 5 hours seemed to pass in a flash. Don't miss out on Garvan's Ireland!

Fantastic to spend the day with someone so enthusiastic about the history of his country . Garvan has a pleasant demeanor and great sence of humor. His preparation was apparent since we stayed off the beaten path he lead us from our hotel and dropped us in an ideal location to meander back. First class day!
Just perfect guide and tour; Garvan made the tour very interesting for everybody; adults and kids (12 and 9). He did his best (thanks for your french!!!) to made this activity very attractive and very funny. The tour was very interesting because in 5 hours we lerned the essentiel about irish history and irish way of life!!!

Garvan is simply a great guide. Passionate, informative, fun, well humored, prompt and inspiring. Have used his services twice and cannot wait to do so again. He is a true Irish treasure.

We are extremely experienced world travelers and Garvan was literally the very BEST tour guide we have ever had, hands down. Beyond just the sheer breadth and depth of his knowledge, he was truly fascinating, making history come alive and show how relevant it was to Ireland today. We came to FEEL Ireland's history, not just learn about it. One example among many— his explanation of the Potato Famine (when seeing the public art installation Famine) and its legacy today was terribly moving.

Five stars is not enough praise for Garvan. This man truly loves Ireland and Dublin. Tour was ideal in length and sites visited. Another definite plus----it didn't rain! On top of all Garvan's knowledge he also sings. We would have absolutely no second thoughts about using either TOUR BY LOCALS or Garvan again. Gary & Trish Ayers

Garvan was simply amazing. Smart, funny, enthusiastic and passionate about Ireland. My 28 year old son and I were fascinated from beginning to end. He was very generous with his inside knowledge of the city and we were sad when our tour ended and we had to say goodbye to our new friend. If you have only one day in Dublin spend it with Garvan.

Walking Dublin with Garvin was super 'craic'. He is smart, fun, and very tall so he is easy to pick out in a crowd :-) Also, there was a student demonstration the day of our tour of Trinity Library and it was temporarily closed -- Garvin was quick-thinking and took us for a quick side tour of a nearby museum until the Library was reopened. He went about an hour overtime at no extra charge due to the inconvenience. I highly recommend him.

Garvan was exceptional in every way! Not only did he show us the highlights of Dublin, he helped understand the complex history of his beautiful country. Garvan shared the colorful stories of Ireland's past in a way that enabled us to feel, touch, and experience for ourselves the heroic events of the past. I give Garvan the highest rating possible and I recommend him to all who wish to make their trip to Ireland unforgettable.
My wife and I took the tour in early December and we enjoyed every bit of it. Garvan is a knowledgeable, funny and pleasant guide. Can't recommend him and this tour enough.

Garvan's 5 hour tour of Dublin was just what we needed for our first day in Ireland. The tour is a terrific overview of Irish literary figures, politics, social issues, and most importantly the battle for Irish independence. Garvan is funny, well read, and passionate about his country- all this makes him a phenomenal tour guide. His tour is a must for your first or second day in Dublin.

Oh boy, there isn't enough space here for me to totally explain the FANTASTIC tour Garvan gave us. His passion and enthusiasm are contagious as is his love of Ireland. We hung on his every word as he educated us. If you have only one day in Dublin and you're looking for a knowledgeable guide Garvan is your man, if you want to grab a beer and a whiskey I suppose you can do that as well but, you'd be missing out on a wonderful experience.

Garvan led us on a walking tour of Dublin history, landmarks, culture, music, legends, and politics. Myself, my husband and our 15 year old granddaughter enjoyed his tour tremendously and gained a better understanding of the people. He sang songs to enhance stories, he told legends in a Gaelic voice, he took us to the location of historical events and directed us to traditional pub for lunch. Tours by Locals always delivers a great day, and Garvan held up that winning streak for us. Thanks, Garvan
Garvan was very professional. He was thoughtful and caring and concerned about my safety. I am so pleased I selected him.He was fun yet very knowledgeable. I would recommend the company very highly to my friends. joan Braun

The five hour walking tour was the perfect way to get a great deal of history and knowledge about Ireland and the culture - and also the absolute best way to transition into the new time zone after landing that morning from the US. Garvan was fantastic. Very high intellect and energy level. He was flexible and adapted based upon our interest and energy levels. This was my son's second time to Ireland and he said he learned more about Ireland in those 5 hours than he did in prior tours. Highly recommend

Garvan was fantastic! So knowledgable of Irish history and a wonderful story teller. This is one of the best tours we have taken from this company over the past 5 years. He is organized, considerate and a wonderful person to spend time with on your vacation. We only had 1 day in Dublin and saw so much of the city with him but did not feel tired at the end! You can't go wrong booking this tour.

I want to thank Garvan for an excellent walking tour of Dublin. My friends and I arrived in the morning and we weren't sure if we could last the 5 hour tour but it was so interesting that the time flew by. We learned about the history of Ireland including the uprising that took place at the GPO. Garvan told us numerous stories as we walked the streets of Dublin. We even had time to taste some beer. He is knowledgeable, funny, and has a wonderful gift as a storyteller. I am so glad we had this experience.

Garvan is a young guy, but really knows Irish history, He is also a bit of an actor (what Irish isn't) and will read one of Yates' poems in such a way as to bring tears to your eyes. He was very flexible about what we wanted to do and when he found out we were interested in Donegal tweed, we were off to the McGee store where we bought several wonderful things from Donegal! Then we were off to a lunch place for Corned Beef and Irish beer.. Whatever you want to do in Dublin Garvan is your guide!

Garvan was a wonderful tour guide for Dublin--knowledgeable and so entertaining. He held our attention for the entire time and knew all the good stops. The 18-yar olds with us came away with a great appreciation for all things Dublin, including Molly Malone! We heartily recommend Garvan.

Our 1st time in Dublin - Garvan was engaging, fun, knowledgeable and a great person to see and experience Dublin with. Do yourself a favor and spend a half day or more with Garvan in Dublin. It was a fantastic experience. Thanks Garvan!!!

Garvan was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Dublin and it's culture and history. We traveled with 3 teenage girls, who were griping about the thought of 5 hours of walking before we met Garvan. By the end of the tour, I think the girls would have walked another 5 hours just to keep him talking. We had no problems with the meeting time and place, Garvan was very engaging and easy to understand, and there were enough stops to make it an easy day of walking. Highly, highly recommend.

Garvan is a very nice guide who is very knwledgeable in Irish history and culture, as well as current trends in The Irish world. His explanations gave us a new perspective of the places or munuments we saw during our walk. He is also interested in learning new things of other cultures. We had a lot of fun with him. We visited historical places as well as shops and local markets, so we felt we touched abit part of the life in Dublin.

Garvan was a most enjoyable guide- youthful, enthusiastic about his city and most accommodating in his guidance during our walk in Dublin. As my wife and I are both of Irish descent, his knowledge of the city, its relationship to the nation's history and the way he wove that history into the tour made it a concise and enjoyable walk through the city. We saw historical and cultural sites mixed with the contemporary shopping, architecture and social points about town, all with helpful commentary.

Garvan was wonderful, full of local knowledge, hidden gems, considerate of our jet lag, a great host of Dublin and wonderful guide all around.
We enjoyed our day with Garvan. So many of the famous sites were within walking distance. Of special interest was seeing the restoration work that is being done with some of the ancient books in the beautiful library at Trinity College. His suggestions for restaurants and shopping were most helpful. Garvan is a very energetic tour guide with a great sense of history and he really made our day in Dublin one that we will long remember.

Garvan was very interesting and engaging. He kept our group of 3 interested throughout our 5 hour tour. He was very responsive to our needs, stopping for bathroom breaks etc as needed. Garvan included helpful advice about pubs to visit and places to shop. He seemed interested in us and incorporated our questions into the tour. It was great to see Dublin with such a knowledgeable guide!

Garvan was a terrific guide! You could tell he tailored the tour to us as we went along and he got an idea of what we were responding to and what we weren't. He promises "Dublin in 5 hours" and he delivers. I would recommend Garvan's tours for anyone coming to Ireland.
We thought Garvan was very personable and appreciated his acting and stories.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: I'm terribly sorry that one of my guides cancelled on me at the last minute, forcing me to cut the tour a little short. It was something that was out of my control, but I was ultimately responsible for covering that subsequent tour, which made for less than ideal circumstances for our tour together, Karen. I appreciate your understanding that it was a very rare, unusual occurrence.

Garvan is great. He is so passionate about his city, and this passion translates into one of the best tours you will ever have. His command of Ireland's history is remarkable. His passion for the city and Ireland's history is astounding. His songs and poems will transport you to another time, and you will feel it. His enthusiasm is refreshing and genuine. Garvan is an true ambassador of Dublin. He is knowledgeable, insightful, engaging, a great communicator, flexible to our schedule and witty. Dublin by foot is the way to see this great city and with Garvin, is the best way to experience it's vibe. This day was a highlight of our trip.

My two children (ages 9 and 11) and I had a tour of Dublin with Garvin in April 2014. He was a fabulous tour guide! He was able to balance his commentary to keep it interesting for both adults and children - not an easy feat. His knowledge of Irish history was fabulous and he gave us great tips for shopping in the area. I have already shared his information with friends and family and highly recommend him as a guide.

This tour was excellent. Garvan was so much fun and full of information and history. This was our second tours by locals tour. I would recommend Garvan and this company to anyone looking for a private tour. Sure beat the tours we took on the cruise ship. This is the only way to go. Thanks so much Garvan for such a great tour. Hope to see you again sometime. If you come to California. Let us know. The Moore's. :)

Garvan gave us an informative, demonstrative, and at times emotional historic tour of downtown Dublin; it was a leisurely paced tour, very easy for our 3 teenagers. I would highly recommend this tour especially if you have a limited time and want to see the highlights. Bring an umbrella!!!

I highly recommend Garvan for anybody looking for a tour guide in Dublin. He was very knowledgeable about the city and the history behind it. He made the time fly by with lots of laughs, and taught us many things as well. We even learned how to properly drink a Guinness! If we ever make it back to Ireland, which we hopefully will, we will be booking him again!

Garvan is wonderful! Such energy, enthusiasm and personality - not to mention an enormous grasp of and respect for history. Our hours with him flew by and he was overly generous with his time, as he didn't rush away when our "official" ending time passed. We were given choices within the itinerary but trusted him entirely to give us guidance since this was our first visit to Dublin. When we return to Dublin, we'll definitely hire Garvan again and recommend him highly.

We were a group of 10 traveling on the Oceania Marina. Without question, we all found Garvan's tour to include everything we could have dreamed of. His energy and love for Dublin was contagious. Many guides are knowledgeable, but Garvan has the ability to teach. He danced, recited poetry, and sang for us as we walked through the streets of Dublin.. The tour went well over the allotted time without complaint from Garvan. The memorable day ended in a Irish pub, guests of Garvan for an Irish ale. 5 Star!!
