Wow! Alessandro's tour of Matera is compelling. We were facing unseasonably cold winds and he kindly offered to take us to a clothing store to buy extra layers and gloves to allow us to be outdoors longer. His in depth explanations of the history of the cave dwellings, coupled with touring a cave museum and nearby cave church were eye opening. This is a do not miss part of the Puglia experience.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Ron and Wilda, that's right: Matera is a must to see as it's unique and magic ... even with that cold wind (by the way in these days there are about 10-17 degrees C thus 50-62 F) .

We loved being with Alessandro. He is sweet, polite and very knowledgeable. He took us to the best spots to see things. Alone we would not have found such spots. He took us to the most historically important sites and also showed us local characteristics and the best places to eat according to one's choice of spending. He is also an expert in the Puglia cuisine. I would certainly recommend him.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Maria, thanks a lot for your nice feedback and rating. Thanks to underline the benefits of a tour guide: to optimize the tour with the best spots, to personalize it and to give information about history, culture, food, etc. On the other hand, when the traveller are so nice like you it's easy to pleasant to work with.

Alessandro was very engaging and passionate about the culture and history of Matera. He went out of his way to show us the best, most complete culture of the area. This included a bakery making local Matera style bread. The Crypt of Original Sin was very religiously uplifting. It was awe inspiring. The caves and houses built into the rocks were interesting and unique. We hope that government helps to restore remaining caves so collapsing does not continue

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Mayr, I'm glad you appreciate this private tour to discover the authentic Matera with its art and flavors. I agree with you: the crypt and Matera are really awe inspiring.

Alessandro was a wonderful guide, always telling little anecdotes about Matera and even pointing out wild thyme, sage, arugula, and capers! His knowledge of the ancient city is boundless, and extends even to the various Hollywood movies filmed there. His English is excellent, and he'll walk you to death!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear David and Lisa, it's been a pleasure to spend a day with you in Matera and I'm glad you enjoied Matera (even if was quite hot) with its history, architecture, movies and aromas.

Alessandro is the ultimate guide. Having grown up in Puglia, he knows the area like the back of his hand. He is very knowledgeable, articulate, easy to understand, a safe driver, and an overall good person, who is on time Aside from seeing the stunning sassi in Matera, we had an unforgettable moment of listening to a 70+ aged gentleman play the piano as we engaged in our wine tasting. You felt like you were getting a peek into life in Italy that tourists don't always see and experience.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Larry, me too I really enjoy that day and the visit of Ciccio's father to the wine shop was the perfect end for that day. He too was so happy and proud to play for you. I've meet him recently and he asked about you.

Just amazing. The cript of the original sin, the Sassi of Matera, wine tasting. Everything was fantastic. Once in a lifetime experience at these areas. But, without Alessandro, we would have missed out on so much. His knowledge of history, wine, EVO tasting, was amazing. I would recommend this tour to all.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thanks a lot fro your feedback. I'm happy you enjoied the tour: Matera deserve a full day to apprecciate not only the Unesco area but also the skyline from the belvedere, the Crypt of the Original Sin in the countryside, as well as a tasty focaccia and a wine tasting of Aglianico del Vulture and Primitivo di Matera wines.

Alessandro gave a superb tour of Matera and the nearby Crypt of the Original Sin. He is knowledgeable, experienced, professional, friendly, and very personable. The history of Matera and its surroundings, and the sites to visit on the tour, are fascinating. The effects on today's Italy of millennia of civilization, religion, and regional differences in culture and socioeconomic disadvantage come to life on this tour. We highly recommend this tour and Alessandro as your guide.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Jose, thanks for you feedback: it's very kind of you. This full day tour of Matera is probably my preferred one as Matera and the surroundings are really terrific and unique.

Great tour full day a little long would do half day

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Eddie, I'm glad you enjoied the tour and I thank you for your nice rating. July 2nd is a very long day with the first procession of the patron saint in the early morning, all the parades with the knights, the amazing papier machè carriage procession and the fireworks at midnight. It's quite tiring but it's unique as patron saint feast, Matera is completely different from the other days and with an half day it wouldn't be possible to enjoy the most interesting things of the day.

Alessandro presented himself in a smart and courteous manner. His in depth knowledge helped us begin to understand the maze that is Matera. After a typical local lunch we ventured outside the unique town to the Crypt of Original Sin, a special site in the midst of a vineyard. We declined the wine tasting and returned to view Matera and the Sassi from the rock outcrops opposite. It would only be a few days before we met up with Alessandro again in Lecce and our Matera experience left us fully confident .

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Hugh, it has been a pleasure to spend a day in Matera. London is so close ... thus I wait for you for a wine and food tour.

I can't say enough about the wonderful day we spent with Alessandro in Matera! He was unbelievably accommodating to our changing schedule and even graciously helped us with translation during a visit with an Italian cousin. Beyond that he has a broad base of knowledge, delivered with a very easy-going style. He went above and beyond in spending the Festa della Bruna with us, making it a truly special day. Thank you, Alessandro!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Rosanna and Kent, the feast is amazing but it's a very long day (by the way this yaer, after a long time, it will be again at the cathedral). Despite that I have got such a nice day with you.

My husband and I recently visited Matera and booked a private tour, our tour guide was Alessandro, his knowledge and enthusiasm made our day very special, we definitely would recommend him for anyone visiting the area. We felt left to our own devices we would have only skimmed the surface, the tour was not just about the area but about the customs and the whole way of life. We look forward to Alessandro's recommendation for our forthcoming visit to Venice.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Grace, thanks for your feedback. I really enjoied the day and spent with you and your hunsband. Venice is magic and you'll find lots of interesting tours proposed by the other collegues who works with TBL: from the history and art tour to the cooking class, the mask painting, the baccari tour, etc. There are lots of flight with UK thus I'll wait for yoru and your hunsband to show you some other amazing place in Puglia region.
