Date: Dec 19/17

Our 4th day with Alessandro began in Lecce and wrapped around the Adriatic coastal region. It included a lot of driving, seeing ancient churches of importance, coastal walks and lunch near Castro, where we discovered delicious Gallipoli shrimp from the Ionian coast. Most valuable this day was having Alessandro share his immense knowledge of the history and culture of Puglia, including the impact of WWII on the region. We returned to Lecce for an informative tour of the old city and meeting local artisans.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Ron and Wilda, this tour is another wonderful one with the baroque architecture of Lecce, the mosaics of Otranto, the breathtaking views of the Adriatic coast. I'm glad you enjoed it.

Allessandro was a great guide. His English skills we great, we had no trouble understanding of communicating. His knowledge of both the history and culture of this area were fantastic. He was able to explain many cultural things that we did not understand. He showed us a number of food traditions of the area. He took us to some out of the way places that we never would have found. He was a pleasant person to spend the day with. Money well spent.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Matt, it's been a pleasure to share with such a well travelled couple our culture, history, food, traditions, landscapes, off the beaten path places and anecdotes. Mee too I enjoied the time spent together. A big hug from sunny Puglia.

Alessandro is one of the best guides we have ever had. He is everything a guide should be and more. Not only does he do what he is supposed to do, but he goes the extra mile. He is friendly, knowledgeable, interesting, has great command of the English language, punctual, a great driver. His knowledge of Puglia is amazing. You will be very happy with him!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: thanks a lot for your nice words: it's so kind of you. I really enjoy the days spent with you: it's a shame the time flew away.

Great tour! Alessandro is a very knowledgeable guide. We learned a great deal of little known information about Puglia history. He was also very accommodating as he helped us search for particular items that we were looking to purchase. Grazie Alessandro!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Gianna, thanks for your nice feedback: it's very kind of you. We have been lucky with the rain but my preferred papier-machè workshop was closed that morning as well as the atelier. It means you need to come back and visit this region soon :-)

I would have said Ostuni is the real gem of Italian Adriatic coast. The labyrinth-like white town that is full of history made us feel like we went back in time for hundred years. By the time we arrived Lecce, there was a heavy rain, Alessandro did not leave us at the hotel but waited until the rain was lighter before guiding us through many churches and historic landmarks of this beautiful city. He continued his professional manner even there was the hailstorm at his place until adjourning home at 8 PM.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: I'm glad you enjoied the tour. I really enjoied your company: you're such a nice people. You are so well travelled and you know what you like and it's easy to work with you. A big hug to all of you. I'm missing you and I will wait you for another tour in Puglia ... or may be ... in Thailand :-)

Lecce is a beautiful baroque town with many churches and beautiful piazzas. There are many places to visit and we enjoyed our morning here. We fell in love with Ostuni and the beautiful square in front of the cathedral and its white washed walls...its a lovely place for an aperitivo in the evening. We tried to fit in Cisternino too in this day tour but did not manage as it was getting late but we were very happy with the two towns we visited - excellent running commentary from Alessandro!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Josella ... in a few days you managed to visit lots of interesting places but Puglia and Basilicata are regions very rich in art, history, nature, etc. You need to come back again in the next future to visit the other cities you missed (Cisternino but also Otranto, Galatina, Gallipoli, Manduria, the salt marsh of Torre Colimena with pink flamingos, etc.) I really enjoied the time spent with you and your beautiful family. I hope to meet you soon in Italy or in Malta. A big hug from Apulia
