The tour overall was good, and he did a great job engaging the children ranging from 4-12 we had with us. However, he presented a somewhat revisionist history of New Orleans regarding slavery and the Civil War. He suggested one of the kids was wrong when she said the Civil War was about slavery, and also spent time talking about how good slaves in NOLA had it. It was inaccurate and was not what we hoped for the kids to hear. This subtle racism was our only complaint, and we enjoyed the tour otherwise.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Sorry to hear you felt I presented a racist view of slavery, for I certainly do not hold racist opinions. I compared slavery in New Orleans to that of other places in America and most historians would hold that conditions here (while terrible) were better than elsewhere in America because of Code Noir and the French King's paternal policies.
